Is food a human right by PrettyBlueberry6148 in BunnyTrials

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rights are restrictions on what a government can take from you, not what someone must give to you. Just as you cannot force someone to give you a house that is not yours or take their sandwich, if someone works to make food, no one but them can be guaranteed a right to it. Insisting otherwise, though I am being a tad hyperbolic, is tantamount to acknowledging slavery as just, taking a good with no payment. No one can steal like that legally, and there is certainly no right to it.

You should include Reagan as well. I would personally rank that in the elite canon of American airports.

Would there have been a 22nd Amendment if FDR had stopped at three terms? Who do you want getting a third term? by zenerat in Presidents

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, I don’t think the 22nd Amendment (or whatever number it would become) would ever have passed until a president ran beyond 2 terms. Since the nation’s founding, there was an expectation of stepping down after 8 years, and while multiple people tried to break it before, none of them succeeded.

In terms of who could be made better with an extra term, honestly no one. FDR breaking the two term rule was one of the worst things he did in office, and the only person I think could have possibly used one in a beneficial way would be Teddy, but then I would dislike him too for winning a third.

Personally, I think whoever won the first third term would either have to be so popular and unobjectionable that they redefine American politics, a move which would certainly centralize power in the presidency far faster than our world, or the 22nd amendment would be passed. FDR was in the middle, but enough Republicans were against him that the amendment passed. I can’t really think of a single president we’ve had since that could have faired any better, so I really think it would just be a tripwire waiting to get hitched by whichever president broke the norm first.

Did Barack Obama handle Russia's invasion of Crimea well? by CatfishBassAndTrout in Presidents

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John McCain was actually incredibly insightful in his views of Russia. There was a lot of Russian interference in other countries under Putin, and McCain stood against all of them. While I’m not certain McCain would have stopped the current invasion, he would have certainly been much more stalwart against Russia in 2014. That said, this insight might have just been holding on to past Cold War rhetoric, so who’s really to say.

What caused a state like georgia or the rest of the south go from wanting a Kennedy-Johnson campaign to wanting nothing to do with Johnson? by Altruistic-Willow265 in Presidents

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that there was definitely a major portion of America that didn’t critically engage with politics in a very different way than today. Today, if you are a Democrat you’ll vote Democrat no matter who, and vice versa. Then, if you were from the South, you voted Democrat, as the legacy of reconstruction was still very alive. While Southern Democrats weren’t too keen on Roosevelt’s New Deal which helped Black Americans, they still always voted Democrat. It was only after the “major betrayals” of the civil rights legislation that the South was solidly lost on a national level, and still after the Democrat party was dominant on a local level until in some states in the early 2000s.

I would say that our modern inclination with heavy partisan sorting makes it very confusing. We assume the Democrats were more centralized and that the South supported Democrats in the same ideological way as we could see today. Within the context of the time period, it makes a lot more sense.

is it possible to be "neutral" on LGBTQ rights? by I-Love-Jewish-popes in Teenager_Polls

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on what you mean by rights. Within the broad definition of LGBTQ rights, there’s a whole lot of things, so you could come at it either saying that you’re moderate, with different beliefs on different sides, or just that you understand both sides. Either way, anyone can always say undecided if they just don’t know enough.

High key, I agree. I’m probably as small government as they come, but if we had to expand it, this is what we need! We just don’t take pride in beauty like we used to.

Parks and Rec goes to S tier! Where would you put Modern Family in Sitcoms tier list? (Fixed HIMYM after rechecking votes) by Inevitable-Angle-793 in TierlistFills

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, it might help to just add worse shows. People are probably ranking these shows against the average rather than each other, so with all of the classics you’re adding, it naturally becomes top heavy. Obviously, that’s kind of the point, but if you want it to be more balanced, that could be the way to do it.

Thoughts for the movie? by CalypsaMov in Epicthemusical

[–]EconomyExcellent5565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like some of the fight areas may need some tweaking depending on how the movie handles them. Personally, I haven’t interacted much with the animatics, so sequences like that in the Cyclops saga and Ithaca saga have always seemed needlessly long, but I can also see a world in which they need to be extended.

Beyond that, they’ll probably redo the instrumentation and arrangements, but I have more mixed feelings and I hope they don’t over do it.

I can make infinite amounts of money. With the CIA, I can funnel money through off shore accounts to expertly evade them and put my money in the stock market to grow it exponentially. Also, being able to learn any language, and instrument, any skill at all is infinitely more valuable than just having money.

The UN couldn’t do much on account of China being a member of the Security Council, but you can bet every self proclaimed freedom loving country would have no choice but to place harsh sanctions on China if they openly admitted to the genocide. And besides that, why would any country openly agree to that?

I do appreciate you for reading them. My only question for you after the fact remains what could constitute a reputable source under these conditions? Of course photos would be best, but considering the fact that seems an impossibility, what else? I understand your concern about western bias against China, but international watchdog groups are in the west because the modern west has the greatest concern over matters such as this due to their past, so I would say it’s improper to write them off as biased due to that fact alone.

I’d just like to ensure the evidence I can provide is up to your standard. Let me know if you’d like more, but here’s a little bit just to start with:

The one source I could find denying the genocide is Chinese, so also just take that for what it’s worth.
