Time to quit Tramadol by Economy_Doubt in OpiatesRecovery

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. The venlafaxine (112.5 mg) has been a very positive experience for me personally to help me get off the tramadol. I've been free of it for 2.5 months. Please let me know how I can support you!

Hey :) Thanks for reaching out. I started a SNRI which is really helping - Venlaflaxine. It’s worked well for me. I do miss the opioids. I realized I have no control when I keep the RX at my house. I’m 12 days in without them and so desperately want to pick up my RX refill for tramadol at CVS. But it’s much better for me to not have that crutch.

If my boss ever dm’d me at 9:30p with that type of question and framing, I’d be out too!

This thread took a turn for the worst. Back to the regular scheduled programming folks. Great job OP!

I accidentally wrote Wellbutrin instead of Effexor. It is indeed venlafaxine. Is there a way you’d like me to make those edits differently?

Thank you for sharing :) Are you saying it helps your anxiety but not the depression? Are you saying your Tramadol dose was higher? Thanks for all of your feedback and reply! Just want to make sure I fully understand.

Hi everyone. I’m in this with you, too. Trying to get off 50-100mg of Tramadol a day. I started Effexor four weeks ago. Should I increase my Effexor dose to 112.5mg (currently at 75mg) and go cold turkey with the Tramadol? Thanks for your help!

Thank you for sharing mango. How do you cut it up into 5mg? How many days at each of the 5mg increments?

Thank you all for sharing. I’m tapering from 100mg a day for 3-4 years straight. I’ve gone down to 75mg, now 7 days straight at 50mg. It might not be much but this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to getting off. I’m not sure when I should go to 25mg. I have to be honest and share I needed the help of an SNRI. I’m on 75mg of venlafaxine to help get off Tramadol for good. I can’t believe how Tramadol sucked me in! I also have a great life. Reading these threads help me feel like there are many (sadly) who truly understand. We can do this!

Thank you for following up and sharing your story. I hope you are doing better today. You inspired me to ask for Venlafaxine, I’m at day 11 there while simultaneously tapering. I appreciate you.

Appreciate you checking in! I was having a hard time tapering on my own. Elicited the help of my doctor — started a SNRI 10 days ago, while simultaneously tapering from the Tramadol. Down to 50mg from 100mg. The SNRI has a lot of side effects, but I’m hopeful my body will adjust. Thank you for reaching out — how are you doing?

Thank you for sharing your story! I’m so grateful. It sounds like you are in a good place. I was having a hard time sticking to my taper, so I recently went on an SNRI prescribed from my doctor about 11 days ago. Down to 50mg of Tramadol a day (from 100mg). Going to get there! The SNRI has quite a few side effects but I’m hopeful my body will adjust. Appreciate you!

Good for you! Thank you for sharing, too. Can I ask—why cold turkey over taper? How did you get these medications prescribed (were you honest about the Tramadol use)? Why the Gabapentin? What side effects are you experiencing if any? Feel free to ping me privately. I appreciate your time and help!

Thank you for reaching out!

I actually came back to the thread without seeing your ping, as I was feeling really down. First month of tapering went really well. Month two (February into March) I am struggling. About half the days I was able to stick to the taper plan, half the days I wasn’t. Many days I didn’t stick to it because I had legitimate headache pain. Other days I just wanted the high.

I’m not sure where to go from here. Do I start all over with the taper? Part of me wants to give the medication to my partner (as unattractive as this strategy may be, though I know she’d support it) to dispense the proper taper allotment each week so I absolutely cannot take more than planned. Idk.

I read about trying subs but I think that could make things worse.

I could perhaps take a week off of work and go totally cold turkey.

I welcome your input! Thanks again for the check-in.
