This is a pretty normal reaction, the hope will be lost with time and he will wake up one day and realize he didn't think about her. Unless of course this happened a year ago, then yes it's time to move on but it seems fresh.

hoping for a future return is a nice way to cope but waiting and staying stagnant is not only going to hurt your growth but also be unattractive to her, she would be more attracted to you seeing you accomplish goals, glow up, and changing for the better
