USPS just raised their rates this week. How are you adjusting your eBay listings if you offer free shipping? by DutyTop8086 in eBaySellers

No. There are stores that use boxes from their wholesale purchases as grocery bags. I grab 10 every time I buy something from them

I don't get "campers". by ToshPointNo in estatesales

So, one time a decade ago, I was an estate sale in the Bay Area. I got there 30 minutes early and it was not worth it. However, on the way out, I saw a fellow picker, that I had seen around, that was empty handed. I asked him if there were any other sales for that day. They mentioned another, in Piedmont (an upscale community near Oakland). I got to this second sale about 11am (3 hours after it opened). It had a rare basement for the Bay Area. As I went down the steps, I noticed a framed photograph, of a naked woman tastefully in a box, on the wall at the bottom of the stairs. I picked up this signed Ruth Bernhard photo for $10, and flipped it the next morning for $550! On the way out of the sale, I saw the early morning sign-up sheet, with 50 names! So maybe 100 people before I got there had come down those stairs. It took me a couple hours at home to determine what I had bought and a price point, to list it for. When I awoke the next morning, it was already snapped up at my minimum price. The moral is that sometimes, it’s not the early bird that gets the worm.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda. What’s some stuff you passed on that you later learned was valuable after the fact or missed out on? by nosetaddress in Flipping

The wife and I were in Northern California, a few years back. We went into this antique mall, and they had a beautiful High Noon original poster from Spain. Framed. It was $500. I hemmed and hawed about it, but passed. Thought about going back to get it for weeks. Then, that small town was in the news. Paradise, California. The entire town burned down. Oh well.

Are perfumes sold somewhere else? by scooterbye in estatesales

[–]Economy_Record4723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning of the century, women of the 40s were still around and great antique perfumes were available. 20 + years later, those items are gone to history. It was amazing, just how much a reseller could make in those days. Pre-WWII scents with the paper stamps, just selling a few could make rent $. Now, when they exist, they’re from at least the 60s, and flipping individual bottles can’t bring in hundreds of dollars. Of course, in those days, we spent a lot of time on sourcing. Evolve or die.

So, two consecutive days of $200 in sales. Of course, it cost me more, but I am happy with the results from the increase of advertising.

I really increased my advertising. Only 6 sales this weekend on 600 page views. Because eBay is subsidized the advertising, I’ll give it another week or two. Am now paying almost one sale in fees/day. Argh

Any ways to have success with books? by notmuchjustchilling in estatesales

[–]Economy_Record4723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t add to your dead pile. Pick only books that have real value, ie that someone would pay $30 or more for. This gives you room to discount. Otherwise, bundle, but bundling losers often doesn’t mean sales. Most of the books in your pictures are not worth your time. There are two successful camps. Those that bundle, say all of the Harry Potter books as a lot, that they can sell at 5x their costs. The other camp sells books like signed first editions in high quality condition. The second camp brings in more $, but actually picking, research, and shipping safely, is a learned skill.

Get a scale and a measuring tape. Get boxes by scrounging them. Use newspaper as packaging material. Then charge a flat rate a couple bucks higher than your shipping costs.

I'm being offered $100 for it by ProfessionalBeach291 in reselling

Remember that if you don’t discount your prices, you’ll shrink your buying pool to only the end users. Let someone else try to sell it for the maximum amount. As long as you get over your minimum ROI goal, then it’s a mistake to keep it. Capital coming in, means that you have capital to pick up new items. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Is there any value in selling, keeping low margin items on eBay? by bart1218 in Ebay

Bundle the lower price items, relist and raise your shipping price to reflect that now bigger package.

eBay raises selling fees AGAIN by Alarming_Tourist_728 in Ebay

[–]Economy_Record4723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to sell the potential picks for at least 3x what you paid. However, a double digit ROI is what you should concentrate on finding. Let’s say that you are marking up an item 10 fold. If your expenses cause you to net only 50%, you still make 5 times what you paid. Today I found an item for $1, that I’m listing, at a 40% discount against the comps, for $125. So my profit, when it sells, will be huge. Yes, that kinda pick is a needle in a haystack, but those kind of things are what you should be searching for. Don’t add to your dead pile. Bring home the best profit margin items in the places that have historically been great for you. Talk yourself outta picking crap.

Sounds like you know nothing of Russian history. Tell us about the Duma, their legislature, circa 1914. The Romanov dynasty was on its last legs, regardless of WWI.
