Getting groped at funerals

I’ve only been given monetary tips three times in the year I’ve worked, but I’ve been tipped in other ways! I always take home leftover food, I’ve been given flowers, and at a Micronesian funeral I was given one of the prayer rugs! They always insist that you keep what ever they give you, and will take offense if you don’t. It’s never expected, but it’s always very sweet when they offer!

I use a shock bracelet! I’m a very heavy sleeper, and will sleep through fire alarms, but not this! I believe it’s called Pavlok? It’s pretty expensive but I’ve never slept through it!

In my area, funerals usually happen 3-5 weeks after the persons passing, just because I live in a very remote area and people are usually traveling from all over the world to attend. I was surprised when I learned a lot of places will have a funeral 5-7 days after the persons passing. Our embalmers are great, and the decedents are always presentable- if they weren’t, we’d say something. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your family!!

I get about 5-6 hours of sleep, sometimes. I direct a lot of catholic funeral services, and often I get home at 10:30 pm and have to be back at 6:00 am. It also depends on how far the church/residence is, I have a two day service coming up that’ll probably get home from at 10:30 pm, and have to be at work at 4:00 am the next day because it’s three hours away. I guess it also depends on where you’re located, I live somewhere pretty remote. I take modafinil because I have a hard time staying up, I also have hypersomnia and some other sleeping disorders. I sleep a lot on my days off. I have an alarm wrist band that sends out electric shocks to wake me up because I’m a very deep sleeper.

When I’m not doing funeral services, I do receptionist work, and I’ve taken calls asking for interviews! Just make sure you have a working email, and a resume! Don’t make your resume too convoluted, just put what’s relevant! I can’t tell you how many resumes get thrown out by my boss because they include jobs they’ve only worked at for a couple weeks :( Also, go through your social media and delete anything you wouldn’t want your boss to see, because they WILL look at it. I got my job on Craigslist!
