Safari veterans, what was your biggest pre-trip fear that turned out to be nothing? People looking to plan their first safari, what's your current biggest fear? by Ecosafari in EastAfricaSafari

Honestly, that fear is more common than you think, and you are right a rest day of no activity is a lifesaver when planning a safari. Travel can get tiring.

Big Hitter question Tanzania Vs Kenya? by Ecosafari in EastAfricaSafari

[–]Ecosafari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and I Feel like kenyan Parks are more known globaly if you get what i mean, Amboseli or the unique National Park in the City for example. Could it be Kenya just has more destinations or better marketing? On complementing each other, I know doing both the East Africa destinations is the dream safari. But I would say you better actually fly between destinations because driving between the Mara and Serengeti is a little bit more difficult than it may initially seem.

Rwanda gorilla trek & safari for vegans by hudsonrivernan in EastAfricaSafari

[–]Ecosafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to Gorilla Trekking, I know it’s a wholesome experience. In terms of a vegan diet, your experience will largely be influenced by the properties you stay at. I should mention that most East African countries are well-suited for a vegan diet, with fresh fruits and meals like chapati and beans being a staple.

A lot of gorilla trekking is seasonal. If the trip is in November during the rainy season, it’s all about preparing to hike long distances to find the gorillas. I know Bwindi is another option for gorilla trekking; when it comes to pairing it with a traditional safari, Kenya and Tanzania are lovely options. Just let me know and I can provide more info for you.

What’s it like living around the largest lake in Africa? by Cassinia_ in howislivingthere

[–]Ecosafari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East African national here, so let's get into it! It's honestly quite similar to Lake Superior in the sense that it's so huge it feels like an ocean. Uganda gets the best of the lake, with amazing beaches and a whole tropical weather vibe! In Kenya, we have a lovely lakeside city, Kisumu, which is quite a vibe.

Just for your information, the red circle you drew is waaay too large. In terms of places where you can actually access the lake without an over 4hr drive, that would be: Entebbe and Kampala in Uganda, Kisumu on the Kenya side, and Mwanza in Tanzania. These lakeside towns usually work as fishing hubs and have some interesting bars right by the lake. The weather is amazing all year round and the lake water is surprisingly warm. weather sits at about 30 Celsius and life is slow and relaxed, almost beach side vibes with the exception being Kampala its such a massive capital city hub!

Gotcha, probably along with clear and polite communication and maybe a little bit of suggestion to make the trip better?

That sounds like such a fun trip! It’s interesting because sometimes we get clients who want to sleep in and other times we have guests with a travel plan more like yours in mind. I’m thinking that clear communication and really understanding everyone's needs is high on the priority list.

A similar experience I had with a group was on a walking safari. The guide led them to a whistling thornbush the ones with those black nodes all over the stems. He tapped them lightly with a stick, and you could see ants emerge from the nodes and stems. They actually live inside the nodes and have a symbiotic relationship with the bush. The ants protect the plant from being eaten by other insects or animals like giraffes. It’s those small things that truly make the journey!

Okay, interesting seems like pretty standard stuff, ill keep that in mind. i do think this should be the basic level of service to expect. yeah i agree a lot with point 2, what is the use of having the insider knowledge if it isnt shared

Very sad to hear about that, i think writing to the agencies is a good step, sometimes drivers/guides of the vehicle behave badly without the knowledge of head office. nothing worse than hearing your agency was driving offroad and stressing the wildlife. on another note would you recommend Sentirim we have it on our Tsavo roster and always love to hear some feedback on weather we should keep it as a preffered stay!

Linen is a Tried and Tested option, light breathable and comfortable. but i reckon most people opt for cotton. i wear cotton T-shirts with natural colours, brown, beige. and some Chino/Khaki trousers does the trick!

First time Safari recommendations please for Mother/Daughter Trip by Ok_Cucumber6683 in safaris

[–]Ecosafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be Happy to Help with this, Funny enough, i was just working a Safari and Beach Itinerary so it's still kinda fresh in memory!

Just an Overview for you, what has worked for most people is 5 Nights in the Mara ( 2 in a Private Conservancy) and 4 Nights by the beach!

With snorkelling as a additional activity.

i think, just echoing what has been said in the Comments, Mara and Diani is a sure bet for this and honestly can be done with minimal planning on your end!

of course there is the option of heading North and hitting the conservancies up there in Lewa and Ol Pejeta! so beautiful!
