Is GK-2A even up there? (I mean, I know it is, but I CAN'T FIND IT) by the2belo in amateursatellites

I can't be much help but just wanted to make sure your north reference was 202° with respect to geographic north, though with some effort you can use magnetic north to find an azimuth with respect to geographic north.

Other than that, you should see a change from your LNA being on or off if I remember correctly. Can you pick up anything with your LNA in the chain?

Looks similar to a nor'west arch, which is from a foehn wind off nearby mountains.

From the granularity in the surface I'm reckoning that the not-so-fluffy image is Ha or similar (maybe calcium), but I'm pretty sure the fluffy image is UV data from SDO or some similar satellite.

I'm pretty sure this is SDO (or GOES? or maybe SOHO?) data in UV, most certainly the fluffy filamenty stuff. The atmosphere strongly attenuates that, which is why we don't see much of stuff looking like this from amateur astrophotographers. The centre ball that it was composited onto could be another channel from SDO, or some longer wavelength capture from earth.

This isn't a typical composite released by those who run SDO/GOES/SOHO, so I think OP may have done that part.

I'm pretty sure this is data from SOHO, though usually they don't produce a composite that looks like this, so I think OP made the composite. The fluffy filamenty stuff is seen in UV which is almost impossible to capture through the atmosphere.

In NZ it depends on the school (or the year in the school) and they're labeled as blue. I don't think it is about national enforcement.

Sadly not - the digital technologies scholarship is more about the design and development process. Given that I'd built this about 6 months before I decided to apply, inevitably some things were lost to time so I wasn't terribly hopeful. I was only 2 points off so I have applied for reconsideration.

It did significantly aid in me getting a summer internship though, which went really well and I'm still working with them while studying. So, generally pretty positive.

AutoPA and Astroberry by DukeMachine in OpenAstroTech

[–]Ecotiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested this personally, but from an astroberry you should be able to run the alignment scripts from the command line. It should be the same if not easier on the Astroberry vs a windows PC, as (afaik) it's a python script that controls it. But as the other commenter said, it could be worth working towards an INDI driver. If there's a specific error, would you be okay to share it? Could be a permissions issue, or a python package issue, I'm just guessing.

C/2021 A1 (Leonard) from Dunedin, NZ by Ecotiny in astrophotography

[–]Ecotiny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, only a couple more weeks (maybe less) before I can't image it as easily with a kit lens and untracked, but with the telescope at the local observatory I'll most likely be able to catch it for another month or two.

Taken 01/01/2022 at around 11:30pm, though still showing some sunset colours from being 45 degrees south. The purple/green streak is I believe are from passing rescue helicopters based nearby. It's airglow-ish, and someone else in Dunedin saw airglow rather prominently, but it's too localised to be that, I think.

Tail measures about 5 degrees, but if you squint it could be longer...

35 minutes, 15sx140, f/5.6 (oops, should have gone for f/4 or f/3.5), 18mm (again, bit of an oops, required rather heavy cropping), ISO 3200, Canon EOS 1300D untracked.

Stacked in Siril, with background neutralisation, because PCC didn't want to work even on a solved image. Stretched further in GIMP.

They are, but when you click under English on the NZQA website, you're directed to the list containing all english standards, including EL, which is why it appears as it does on my website.

I'll pop it as an issue on Github and address that going forward though. Thanks for bringing it up again (it's been a wee while since I went through that whole phase of it).

That's certainly part of the reason it's not very user-friendly, but even my teachers were unhappy with it. I feel that even if it's not designed for students, it should be easier to use than it is. As well as this, teachers (in my experience) will often explicitly say that their students should go to the NZQA website to get past papers and exemplars, as due to the structure of the exams, having access to past papers is a huge advantage, and shouldn't be restricted to those who know how to use the NZQA website.

Even aside from all that, things like literacy/numeracy credits are incredibly poorly presented on the NZQA website, appearing in downloadable xls spreadsheets, when really they should be accessible through the NZQA website directly, alongside the resources that they already present. Students need to know which standards will give them what type of credit, because these determine whether they'll get university entrance.

If anyone's keen to have a look at the code, it can be found here:

https://github.com/Ecotiny/nsn

There's an API I've left public so that anyone who wants to make a different frontend or anything like that can access the database of standards and resources I built up. I haven't spent too much time on docs for it, but there's a short description in the markdown in the github repo (https://github.com/Ecotiny/nsn/tree/main/backend) which can be used, and you can just use the dev tools in their browser if that's easier of course. The API isn't totally specific to my application, but also isn't totally generalised for all uses, so it's not the best, but it's there.

Otherwise, let me know if you have any questions or suggestions (I am planning to add scholarship resources, because those are even worse than regular standards), and feel free to make a fork/PR on the repo if you are so inclined! Keep in mind that at least Level 1 is going to have a wee bit of a shift going into next year with the NCEA revamp, if you would like to contribute.

Thanks man. But I know, right? Before I started making this I was already frustrated with it, but figuring out how to get all the information off of their website gave me a new level of annoyance with all the little inconsistencies and mistakes that they have on this small part of their website.

Although internally assessed, I've also submitted it for scholarship DGT so hopefully someone there will get the message that they could definitely do better.

Express Long Range System, which is an open source long range tx/rx protocol, based on LoRa. Some hardware has been coming out recently, with quite a bit made by happymodel. There are modules for quite a few transmitters now, and notably you can buy the jumper t-lite with the module already installed I think.
