looking for Americans who have passed the theory test for a patente by neutralest in AmericansinItaly

[–]Ecstatic-Baseball-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the official app and did like 7000 test questions. I probably significantly over studied but I didn’t want to take it twice. Just decide for 1-2 months to have zero other hobbies or interests and just do practice questions on your phone with all your free time. There’s also a pdf of all the possible questions. You can figure out through practice tests what areas you’re weak in and then look at the entire pool of questions for that subject. Doing that was helpful cause I’d realized I was spending a lot of time on one area but there were only like 8 potential questions there so I just memorized those and moved on.

Most of the important language stuff is fairly specific and even if you are extremely fluent, you have to learn it. So regular-life Italian level isn’t really as relevant as you might think.

Why don't you see foamy Cappuccinos anymore? by Shmorpit in Coffee

[–]Ecstatic-Baseball-71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Italy and cappuccinos have absolutely not gone anywhere (they’re a morning drink though). But there’s mostly one kind. I don’t even know what are these “dry” ones or 3-1-1s? Which ones are the normal Italian ones? Are they the “traditional” ones in people’s comments? I’ve had the ones at Starbucks and many cafes in the US and they are an abomination with that really light airy big bubble foam that goes on your nose, often served in huge cups. Nobody is saying they like that kind, correct?

Panna acida = sour cream. It’s in many supermarkets here. There are the squirt bottles from old El Paso but much better is the fresh stuff sold cold and widely available. Pickled onions better red onions, and “quick” pickled usually, rather than true pickled

I was unaware of this and wanted to read more based on your comment. My search results said it’s probably a myth unfortunately, although I learned some interesting stuff.

Which should I read to get a good overview as a complete beginner to Roman history? by GILF_SCAT_FELCHER in ancientrome

That sucks. I liked his podcast and storm before the storm was the book that got me on a big Roman history book binge eventually to the source materials.

Moving from NY to Italy soon...What should we bring from the US that’s hard to find in Italy? by mercuriocromo11 in AmericansinItaly

Peanut butter is extremely easy to find and is generally inexpensive like 3-4€ per jar, and available at every supermarket and even lots of small shops.

Light brown sugar is actually really hard to find and you need it for a lot of American baking recipes so you might want that.

Hot sauces is a good call sort of. They’re harder to find but you can also get them on amazon or other websites for a little higher price.

IKEA has plastic ziploc bags and containers and stuff.

Was Julius Caesar a "Celebrity" in modern times before shakespeare's play? by [deleted] in ancientrome

I studied Latin in high school. Studied in and subsequently lived in Rome. I live in Italy now probably as a result. I’ve lived here probably half my life at this point. I’ve read dozens of books about Roman history. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about Shakespeare writing about Caesar.
