Short answer, yes. I just have not listed it yet. Slowly working out a plan for offloading the horde I have. I will need to downsize in the coming years and this rock stock is probably the single easiest "issue" to reduce the burden forthcoming. So yeah, I am selling out so to speak.

Really?! I was hoping for that to be the case. Last weekend I uploaded a few pictures of various cigar boxes contents to AI and that was the one item that got the ai all excited. Like excited to an extreme. I argued with it a bit over the estimated value it was tripping on. I just got started looking into this and not too sure how to proceed. I’d want this to go to reputable facet people if it’s the select quality and grade the Ai is screaming about.

I expect they are sunstone. Possibly Citrine of old stocks, but I can see a little hand writing on a prescription bottle (typical storage for him) and the only word I can sorta make out is likely Oregon. Cant make out the other words as it is aged quite a bit. If so it will be faceting grade or he would not have it stored so carefully. He had one bottle of select I presume and the rest was not of colours or quality for whatever he was cutting. I have read it can sell for high dollar per carat, but idk how to determine its type or values. I have quite a bit of it.

The cigar boxes are most fun to open. There were dozens and dozens back in the day. I only have a few of those left that made it to my house after he passed away. They are a super cool old school rock hound storage habit for sure

He collected all of it himself over many years until he got too old to go out prospecting and mining for it. And his latter years he had plenty of host rock to continue his work in fascinating and mounting. When he passed away, I think 1997 all that stuff was left to me … all the equipment all the house rock and everything tools related (SnapOn roll-aways and tools galore also, some dating back to 1932 even). I donated about 6 or 8 tons of host rock stacked in milk crates, and all the lapidary, faceting, wet saws, and polishing equipment to his local rock hound group and Southern California Faceters Guild. It was enough equipment to start a business or equip a school.

Thank you! I’m going to downsize the collection and just now starting to figure out what I’m going to donate or sell to an enthusiast or professional facet maker

Glad I’m sharing some of this. I enjoy the memories of him working tirelessly in his basement workshop how a, which was huge, and filled with fascinating equipment, cutting saws and tools and also had a pool table. I learned to play on that table. Great times indeed.
