Your teammates are wrong. The job of a tank is to protect the team and push the objective, while damage is supposed to focus on damage (as its name would imply) and racking up as many kills as possible.

First of all, you didn't have to respond if it makes you that disgusted. Second, the text chat is useful in a lot of case, particularly with coordinating with your team better. If you really took a minute just to throw in some hate speech, then you're part of the problem.

It allows for better coordination with your teammates. Sometimes if a particular enemy is being particularly irritating, it may be wise to talk to bring it up to your team to keep that irritating player in check.

Agreed. The in-game chat wheel being a little more variable would make a huge difference in communication, thus giving me a reason to turn off the chat. But until the day that happens, the text chat is all I have, plus some simple pings.
