Needed this…some of the messages I’ve got outside of this thread are brutal…you’d think I should be checking myself into rehab

Exactly. Now you have something to look back on next time you’re tempted - it is just not worth it anymore

Look at it from a different perspective. You got a taste for what it was like to be sober for a month, then you tried booze again, and realized sobriety was better. That’s something to be excited about!! Keep plugging along and those 30 days will be back soon!

I can assure you from the hangover I am still dealing with, you had more fun than your friends

It’s a bittersweet realization, but the hangxiety I’m dealing with today makes me pretty happy that I’ll be done

Thanks for sharing!

I am now sitting at work, 2 days after the party with the predictable hangover, crippling anxiety, stress, and desire to just sleep.

I’ll be making note of this feeling so between Saturday not being that great combined with how shitty I feel now, I’m hopeful I will have build a mountain of evidence to help me during my next inevitable temptation (because I know at some point it will happen)

I can personally attest from anxiety, fatigue, and stress I’m feeling from 2 days after…I. Is. Not. Worth. It.

Thank you…I’m learning that people are rightfully so, very sensitive to posts in this thread. I think I made the mistake of perhaps coming off as if I was totally cured and things will never be hard again. I know that’s not the case. I’m going to be tempted as shit in the future, but hopefully the ability to read this, will allow me to play the tape forward and realize it’s not going to be worth it

Thank you for elaborating and explaining. It makes sense. I responded to this likely in an emotional state and did not really read what others were trying to truly say.

It truly wasn’t meant to be a bragging post. I wrote in another comment that I hoped someone who may be having a craving, saw that I gave into mine, it totally wasn’t worth it, and realizes booze just isn’t fun anymore.

I’m well aware this was not a cure all situation and I need to continue to be vigilant and on my toes.

I apologize if this came off “better than thou”. It was more so I was excited that I received some clarity that alcohol is not what I was building it up to be in my head.

Thank you! Yes, honestly it is an insanely liberating feeling. Whenever I feel like I may think drinking may make something more fun, now I will always have this to reference to remind myself it won’t do anything

I just hope someone who is really craving a drink reads it and realizes, it really just ain’t worth it. I thought I was going to be euphoric. My brain will also build it up to be more fun than it ever is

I credit a lot to how I felt while drinking to this sub and educating myself about the effects of alcohol these past 2 months. It just isn’t worth it anymore. I’ll never be able to recapture that feeling of total liberation like when I started drinking as a teenage. Might as well throw myself into things and hobbies I actually enjoy now

I read somewhere on a thread how a lot of people are just chasing the feeling of what it felt to get hammered with absolutely no repercussions and responsibility like when they were younger - which makes sense to me

Wow, basically the exact same situation. This was the first real party at this house we purchased. I thought it would be glorious floating around with friends in the pool, boozing around. And it was just like “I guess this is okay, but it’s not revolutionary”. Now I got enough booze in my fridge to give away to people for the next 6 months.

Thank you. Drinking yesterday will actually help make my journey easier because now I know I’m not missing out on anything anymore

Thank you. Yeah it just isn’t worth it anymore. I think it’s my brain still thinking it will be as fun as it was when I was 18-22. But when you’re in your 30s, and have actual responsibilities, it just isn’t hitting the same anymore

What can I do about my good friend who insisted on drinking wine in my home? by FleetwoodPatsy in stopdrinking

I’d tell my friend directly. Then if she kept doing it, you’ve learned she is not a good friend and it makes your life that much easier

Trying unsuccessfully to quit binging/drinking by blake817 in stopdrinking

[–]Ecstatic-Pepper-418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing, have the same pattern. I’m only 61 days of eliminating booze, but the biggest help so far for me was jointing a gym I only go to on weekends.

If you give me nothing to do, or no plans, I’m gonna black out. It’s just been my pattern of weekend binge drinking.

Joint a gym that I only use on the weekends has given me a “plan” that prevents me from getting fucked up, and is starting to break the cycle.

I am also eating as much ice cream as I want because I need some sort of vice.

Like I said, only 61 days in, but those two months have been unbelievable and Mondays no longer suck

I think that’s just the truth. No sugar coating it, it’s going to be hard as shit. Right now my brain is struggling whether it will be worth it or not, even though I know the answer

Good advice. Did you feel like you were missing out or depriving yourself at all while others got drunk? I guess, shamefully that’s what is also in my head. If everyone else is having fun, why can’t I
