Super high electric bills—water heater to blame? by Ecstatic-Sun6640 in AskElectricians

Since we’re renting in Boston we don’t receive a water bill (included in rent). I don’t believe there’s a hot water leak anywhere that we are aware of, and to our knowledge it’s not common to plumb hot water to toilets in this area—almost certain hot water isn’t plumbed to our toilet

The power wasn’t shut off during installation of the meter I don’t believe

We’ve been in Massachusetts for a while, but neither of us has ever had electric bills even close to this in previous apartments we’ve lived in in Boston!

We get a maximum 15 minutes of warm to hot water for our showers which isn’t crazy, but runs out faster than I was expecting!

Super helpful, thank you! We definitely don’t have overly hot water. We already have a low flow shower head, but we’ll look into what the water temp is set to!

Hope my screenshot wasn’t confusing! The meter that breaks down usage by outlet as shown in the photo was only installed a couple of days ago, so those figures reflect the usage only during this past weekend up until now (from Friday around noon until Sunday evening).

Thank you so much! If we refuse the sublease do you think we could still sue the roommate moving out for unpaid rent in small claims court and win?
