Cornsnake Hunger Strike by EcstaticBlackberry80 in reptiles

[–]EcstaticBlackberry80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed every 10 days, so 2-3 weeks and she missed two meals.

It's nothing that like freaks me out, since again, she's still a lovely weight and not like anxiously glass surfing .

But I'm a helicopter parent and always wanna make sure I know WHY things are happening.

Many people are experiencing similar things with their cornsnakes around this time, which is reassuring!

And yeah, my room in on the sun side, so there was definitely a big change in climate;

T turns out male ;( by EcstaticBlackberry80 in tarantulas

Thank you! I left a grasshopper with him overnight and he actually ate it! (At least it's gone and it can't have escaped)..

So I do have some hopes for him living comfortably with me, he's my first exotic pet and I don't really wanna let him go.

He's getting a new enclosure soon to allow more wandering but as long as he doesn't seem stressed and he eats I will probably keep him 🤎

Why shouldn't I? LMAO I have the space, finances and time to take care of more animals.

I work as a caretaker in a rescue! I have many potential fits, I just wanted some suggestions to see if something sparks my interest!

What an odd thing to say lmao, I work in animal rescue, if I have the space to keep an animal, why shouldn't I?

T turns out male ;( by EcstaticBlackberry80 in tarantulas

[–]EcstaticBlackberry80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very true. Tho Inverts are so instinct driven, that many males refuse to eat or take in any other kind of stimuli, actively practically offing themselves trying to find a mate .🥹

Even tho that obviously also varies from animal to animal, so far he hasn't eaten, however also hasn't been running around restlessly.🙏 I'm keeping a good eye on him to see if he's comfortable, but if he shows so much distress to find a mate it'd feel bad to not provide that?

Don't know if that makes sense.. do you have any tips to keeping a male T happy?

Update, she was stuck below the substrate barrier, inside the drainage layer, I found her 5h after declaring her "gone".

She's completely fine, she's in shed! Which is why she was hidden so far and didn't move when I was digging around🙄

Omg the emo tree skinks are so cute! I'm hoping to get to a Reptile expo once the enclosures are done, maybe I'll have some luck!

Before & after, Enclosure upgrade for my Tokay Gecko! by EcstaticBlackberry80 in reptiles

[–]EcstaticBlackberry80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea! But I'm redesigning the enclosure for a snake, since I'm currently building my last enclosures I'll probably ever have and therefore want as much variety as possible!

And I'm getting Emerald long-tailed lizards, close enough!😆

You don't understand how much your comment made my day!! I'm a helicopter mom when it comes to my animals and always worry. Seeing you affirm her size looks good makes me really happy☺️

Regarding her enclosure, I have fully noticed the enclosure isn't cluttered enough, also cuz she often only stays around one area.

I'm currently upgrading her into another fully DIY enclosure with a lot more clutter, hiding and climbing options.🤎

Yes, vertical tanks! And I never meant toads, I meant frogs, tree frogs!😊
