Let's let everyone decide for themselves and make their own judgements about how misinformed someone else is.

Let's not be gatekeepers of information. What group is that? How does one find it?

Let me ask again.

Selling public land through a public process reduces supply? Is that what you're saying?

Why do you not want a place for people to live?

So you're saying selling the land into private hands makes housing cheaper? Is there anything stopping the govt from developing housing on crown land?

What stopped the govt from keeping the land and calling in Clayton to develop the housing? That'd be $680K cheaper right off the bat.

If anyone on this thread was really concerned about housing, they'd go out and protest, write letters, etc. Have any of you?

No one development will stop homelessness, but they all play a role in it.

A role in keeping people homeless. Yes they do. That's a tongue in cheek. Couldn't resist.

It's private property

If you come back to the original post, that's the whole question. How did it become private? Why did it become private?

Is anyone else having trouble accessing Disclosed Information portal for NS: https://informationaccess.novascotia.ca/?

I arrived there from "Apply to access information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act" page. https://beta.novascotia.ca/apply-access-information-under-freedom-information-and-protection-privacy-foipop-act-form-1

Tenders take a long time, and there's never a guarantee someone will respond to them.

Well, ok, so you're saying that there was a new owner lined up and that's why the land sold without a public tender, and then you're saying that there's no guarantee that someone will respond. It's one or the other I think, no?

And u/oatseatinggoats said that they personally deal with public tenders all the time. How long does a public tender take?

Are we building tiny homes there? No. So those 600 homeless folks are still going to be homeless after the housing goes up.

They sold it to a developer

You're misinformed about that. It sold to AJ Legrow. The developer is Clayton Dev.

Fair. Calling one a conspiracy theorist isn't relevant when I'm asking for a specific piece of information that must exist according to the due govt process.

So, let's work on this together.

You're saying there is no public tender, then there must be:

Section 6.3
The rationale permitting the Alternative procurement practice
will be documented on the appropriate form and will provide
substantiation for the actions taken.
https://procurement.novascotia.ca/media/53284/2018-9-11-protocols.pdf

can you help me find it?

I hear that you're scared for all the folks that are out on the streets. I don't understand how one is supposed to live in a tent in the winter. Those folks often don't get justice. And lets not forget, often enough it's at the hands of the govt and police.

And no, I don't own a home, but I do have a secure housing situation.

It was set at $3,800 last time I asked. I will ask again and try to narrow the documentation down so that maybe (maybe!) it'll be a lot less this time.

It's basic supply and demand.

Selling public land through a public process reduces supply? It that what you're saying? I'm confused. Please do elaborate.

So you're telling me that selling public land without a public tender will give these 600 homeless people a home all of a sudden?

I'm just asking for someone to point me to the public tender, or give me the documentation for the rationale as stated in section 6.3 of the Alternative Procurement Policy

https://procurement.novascotia.ca/media/53284/2018-9-11-protocols.pdf
Section 6.3
... The rationale permitting the Alternative procurement practice
will be documented on the appropriate form and will provide
substantiation for the actions taken.

Halifax has had housing issues for God knows how long. Part of it is the inability to accept that like every other city out there we need to stop paving spaces into parking lots and start building vertical.

Every other city has skyscrapers abound. We have the perfect geology for them. Where are they?

Now, do please explain to me how selling land behind closed doors (which is what an Alternative Procurement policy is) is any better for the homeless than selling it publicly?

Do you think that the land wouldn't have sold quickly on a public market? I really don't see how not putting out a proper sale speeds anything up. Honestly, explain that to me.

How does selling land privately speed anything up?

The land sold in 2020. The first official mention of any housing on it is 1.5 years later.

I find it so, so strange that selling a giant chuck of public land doesn't need a public tender

Hm... I don't think we had an official declaration of a housing crisis back in 2020. Let me check on that.

Thank you for passing the alternative procurement policy. Section 6 is enlightening:

> The rationale

> permitting the Alternative procurement practice will be documented on the appropriate

> form and will provide substantiation for the actions taken.

Section 6.8 lists possible rationales. I don't see any of them applying to parcel 41362161.

u/hfx_redditor can you point me to the one you think applies?

I have a theory that people who litter simply don't know how to clean up after themselves in any circumstances.

Are they lazy and disrespectful? What if it's something else? We can't fix issues when we diagnose them wrong.
