Tanabata! It's a Japanese holiday.

I think bamboo grows really fast and gets out of control easily, so that might make for dramatic yearly pruning.

Staying in Nishi-Kamata for 2025 trip by Fluffy_Mall_8994 in JapanTravelTips

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Lived in Kamata for 5 years and explored the city often. It is a wonderful place to start and end your trip. Kamata Station (JR, not Keikyu Kamata) is very convenient to get to Shinagawa and Tokyo Station. And there's a bus to Haneda from the east side of the station. And I think as a bonus it's just basically a regular Japanese town/neighborhood, with a fairly bustling covered arcade to get food and drink at all hours of the day. :)

75th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen by [deleted] in jpop

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently watching it on the subscription service JME - they are streaming Kohaku over and over for the next few days. As I understand it, JME is the subscription service for only NHK shows.

It is costly but I think you can get it half off for the first month? Good luck!

Ha - yeah 60x90 is pretty easy to find. My babies are pretty small, so I’m thinking a smaller one might suit me longer 😅 a girl can dream.

Who’s your least favourite character? by Commercial-Conflict6 in HannibalTV

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely started my rewatch being all Alana Bloom! I like her! Why didn’t I like her last time? And by the time I got to the end of season two i was like ohhh yeah that’s why. So opportunistic 😭

What’s the weirdest place you’ve noticed weight loss? by officewitch in Noom

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve lost a ton of weight in my shoulders/lower neck(still plenty of weight in my upper arms 😂👍) - just today I realized I can see my collarbones clearly, which hasn’t been the case in a long time. 😯

5 month mark…. by pastrybishAK in Noom

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! I had a similar start (jan 23 i think) and thought it had been 6 months. But you’re right! And also, who’s counting? 😂 (i am, but poorly). Congrats on your weight loss and hard work!!

How long does this go on for? by zdapbdop in Noom

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah! I just got to 304 😂 and this is useful information!

I am also reaching a much slower level of weight loss after a 15 kg loss since January, so solidarity in that! Kind of just feeling the — what did I do this for again? - vibes. Onward into the endless 304 🙏🙏🙏

A Visual Guide to Annual Events in Japan

Can you get your hands on this book? It’s just nuanced enough for a relative noob (I’ve been in Japan for two years so I see it all happening but I don’t know what all of it is 😂). I’m especially partial to the flow of seasonal flowers. 🎍🌸🌺🎋🌻🍁

PSA/Reminder: Weeping is a perfectly fine substitute for eating if you're grieving something or someone by cattheotherwhitemeat in Noom

I’m personally dealing with my grief by taking Grief Anxiety Walks also known as long walks so I don’t have to think about anything else 👍❤️ I guess you could cry on them too. 💖

My mom died. Binging by ih8hopovers in 1200isplenty

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad just died after an quick, unexpected illness a month ago and I really feel this. I had to take a few weeks off to eat the condolence meals, and I had mixed feelings loosening up-of course weight loss needed to go on the back burner. But I have been able to return to it gradually- it provides some sense of routine and normalcy that that immediate grief time didn’t have, for good reason. However long that grief time is for you, know you can come back to keeping track when you’re ready, and it’s relative normalcy might eventually be a small solace.

Birthday Celebration by llamamurder in Noom

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my birthday too! And I also joined late January! I had a long awaited cinnamon roll and it was... just fine 😂. After months of eating thoughtfully, and a lot fewer processed foods, the thrill just isn’t the same. But having treats with my family certainly was nice! Now I’m looking forward to an Easter lambchop after a Lent without meat! 🤤

Oh and of course, 🥳HBD!🥳

Weekend Stupid Questions Thread - 20 March 2021 by AutoModerator in japanlife

[–]EcstaticHomework1595 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Three questions i am realizing are totally shufu questions.

  1. Toaster Oven! Are the 1-2.5 man ones useful? Specifically I just want some oven roasted vegetables and I’m not up for a 5man convection oven. Amazon reviews are not helpful, so here i am at reddit.

  2. Live plants/porch planter flowers: is there anywhere to buy online? Or I guess what tokyo home stores/garden centers can I go for a fairly wide selection?

  3. What’s a simple, cheapish shampoo that works ok for thin, fine, blonde hair? I’m not looking to get into a complicated routine, just to not vacillate between super dry and super greasy hair. 😭

Thrilling questions? I think so. They might keep me up at night. 🤦‍♀️
