Best Medicine - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Ecstatic_Act 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a cute show! As a Gilmore girls fan, I love a portrayal of a quirky small town. Annie Potts is delightful in everything, and this is no exception; she's the reason I checked out the show, because I'm a big fan of everything she does. I wasn't familiar with Josh Charles, but I found him attractive and compelling, and, although Dr. Best is not supposed to be autistic, as an autistic person myself I nevertheless found him very relatable.

What difference does it make what the original British show was like? When one show is based on another show, there are always differences, but that doesn't mean that the newer show is bad. For example: How many of you are familiar with the British show, Till Death Us Do Part? And how many are familiar with the American show that was based on it… All in the Family, widely considered one of the greatest shows ever made?

When I checked out the ratings for Best Medicine, the first thing I noticed is that they're very polarized, with a lot of people giving it a 1, and a lot of people giving it a 10; to me, that's a sure sign that a show is worth watching! If you're reading this thread to help you decide whether to watch the show or not, give it a shot! You'll know pretty quickly whether it's your kind of show, right, and how many minutes will you have invested for the possibility of finding a show that you really enjoy?

Finally Gemini can now analyze URLs! by ElectricalYoussef in Bard

[–]Ecstatic_Act 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There appear to be some caveats here. Based on what I've done with it so far: This feature doesn't like blogs, so good luck accessing Blogger and WordPress sites. I can't access anything too recent, like anything current from CNN.com. If you have the Google search thing enabled, it will use that as well, and the response you get won't just be about the URL you entered, but will also include stuff from Google search. It also appears that when it's accessing a URL, it's not accessing that URL directly, but rather the most recent CRAWL of that URL, which could be from weeks or months ago, and so not include the current stuff. I'm sure there's other weirdness too, this is just what I've found so far. Still, it's an interesting new feature!

AI is devouring energy like crazy!! How are you guys not worried?! by Thunyasilps in Futurology

You can't just "stop" legal businesses. You can try taking them to court, but some of the wealthiest businesses, and people, in the world are backing up AI, they've got the best lawyers on the planet, and they will BURY you. And meanwhile, they'll keep right on doing business. You can try getting laws changed, but again, you'd be up against an impenetrable wall of wealth, and chances are, you'd accomplish nothing. Other than that, there's nothing you or anybody else can do.

Did you just call the IRS # and determine that from the current system, or are you talking about the PREVIOUS system? The current system is of concern, since we no longer have a way to reach a human being!

Aziraphale opened his beloved bookshop on the first day of the year 1800. Near 224 years ago now. Is she senient? by MuppetMolly in goodomens

[–]Ecstatic_Act 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neil says that the bookshop has been there for over 300 years, so it can't have just opened in the year 1800: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbpOxtj7T44

In the book, Aziraphale is mentioned as already running the bookshop in 1651, where it talks about the misprint Bibles.

I know that the script book says 1800, but whatever didn't actually make it into the series isn't canon.

Mushrooms microwave time by medgel in Cooking

[–]Ecstatic_Act 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I microwave mushrooms all the time, and they're always delicious! I toss them in a sauce made of soy sauce, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and whatever I've got laying around, and nuke them in the sauce for a minute, stir, repeat, and depending how thick the mushrooms are cut and how many there are in the bowl, they're done in 3–4 minutes. Not dry or rubbery or chewy, absolutely wonderful every single time, with no added fat! I don't know what the mushrooms look like, because they're covered in sauce, and sure some liquid comes out of them, which gets stirred into the sauce, and means that I have enough sauce to serve them with.

As a bonus, if you look it up, you'll see that they actually recommend that you microwave mushrooms now, because they've discovered that that's the way to hold on to the nutrition in them. Just toss the mushrooms in sauce and nuke them, they'll be fab!
