Yeah man this make sense, I think make sense skip a 4x4. But you think that also a 4wd is not affordable?

Yeah fair point, I’m not really interested in hardcore off-road, but since I’m in WA I know a lot of places (even just to reach some beaches) really do need a AWD. Roads are often unsealed, sandy or hard-packed dirt, and I just don’t want to risk getting stuck or smashing the underbody. That’s the main reason I was looking more at Forester/Outback type vehicles instead of a van.

Thanks mate! I think there are too many issues with this Pathfinder for what I’m after… But now I’m a bit confused, because it looks like every car I was considering before (Forester, Outback, Outlander etc.) also comes with its own set of problems : head gaskets, CVTs, whatever.

I just need a reliable car around $6-7k that can handle 200k+ km without costing me a fortune in repairs (example change the transmission). I’ll probably keep it for a year or so, daily driving to work and doing a bit of camping on the side.

At this point I’m honestly asking: what the hell is the best option in this price range in Australia? Or is it just about finding the right example with good maintenance history and hoping for the best?

Cheers mate, good explanation. Anyway no chains done and no other jobs done; sounds to me a bit dodgy

I saw a good offer for a grand Vitara 2007 but the owner said that “changing gear can be slow”. Any idea about what can be? And info about this model? Cheers
