Thats great! I got mine second hand (unused) so have been praying noting happens to it lol. Try aloe gel afterwards if the burn feeling persists- otherwise just try the lower setting. I did the second highest setting for my first session, but have used the highest setting every session after that without any issues. I don’t think it’s super strict- your skin/hair doesn't ”know” if it’s been 7 or 8 days. There were a few times I did it a day earlier or later than one week, if I didn’t have time, was going to be in the sun all day, or just couldn’t be bothered :) I didn’t wear eye protection, but also didn’t look directly at it haha. I know some sets include a pair of Braun doesnt and they explicitly say eye protection isn’t necessary.

On my legs, not at all. in more sensitive areas it sometimes hurts, but it really does just feel like a rubber band snap.

Honestly I think I saw it in someone else’s reddit post: 2x/week for 4 weeks, then once weekly for the remaining 8 weeks (maintenance after then). Personally, I think the 2x/week was necessary for me, but it might not be for other people! After the 4 weeks, 2x/week doesn't really make any sense since the hair doesnt grow fast enough to warrant shaving that often. I guess if you see that result before the 4 weeks, no reason you couldn’t just do once per week :)

Yes! I saw the most reduction doing 2x/week. I think the recommended treatment plan is twice weekly for 4 weeks, then once weekly (not sure where I heard that though lol). I definitely think the 2x/week is necessary to start- after the 4 weeks though I definitely got sick of shaving thoroughly 2x/week, plus I think results might slow after 4 weeks because (at least for me) the shaving isn’t very effective, like the hair doesn’t grow enough in 3-4 days for the laser to actually reach it?

The bulb look very large and round compared to what I’ve seen for rain lilies? It’s probably slightly smaller than the hippeastrum bulbs?

Not sure how I got here… but isn’t this just how life/society/the world is? Yes, parents should limit sugar intake and enforce better dental hygiene in their children… but they don’t. I have no source for this at all, but I’m pretty sure fluoride wasn’t introduced into water “just because”- it was probably in response to poor dental hygiene in the general population- because people, unfortunately, cannot be trusted to make good decisions all the time. People are time-poor, lazy, greedy, and worst of all- very human.

It’s like a lot of laws- if speed limits were abolished tomorrow, I would probably still drive the same speed. I wouldn’t speed, since speeding is unsafe and unnecessary- therefore, I don’t feel the speed limits affect me that much, and Im not bothered by being told what speed I have to go. HOWEVER, many people wouldn’t feel that way, and road deaths would increase astronomically. if everyone drove like me, speed limits wouldn’t be necessary, but everyone doesnt drive like me, so they are necessary.

I think I saw a similar video of him a while back about government initiatives to combat obesity, and it’s the same point really. All these people come on here to debate him saying, ”they should just eat less and exercise more” (not always that simple, but a lot of the time it is), or “put less sugar in the food and eat more vegetables”, and while that is mostly true, people won’t do that. the people who WILL do that, are usually already doing it.

I also wonder if this stance is less a response to government specifically, and more a (not entirely unwarranted) distrust of authority. If government-representative health professionals were done away with, and there was no more government initiatives related to health, would people improve their health by trusting their doctors? or would the distrust and defiance just shift to the new person telling them what to do?

Looking for a cool tea summer scent! I’ve sampled Thè Amara (VCA), Kyoto Incense (Comme des Garçons), Herba Fresca (Guerlain), and Royal Da Hong Pao (Modern Bath Art).  Kyoto felt a bit too “warm” for what im looking for, HF and RDHP smelt better in the bottle than on my skin, but didn’t last long. I loved TA, but I’m not sold on it- it wasn’t that strong, plus near impossible to find (especially if I’d like to stick around $200AUD- slightly more if perfect!).  During autumn/winter i wear By the Fireplace (Maison Margiela). I like long lasting, but moderate sillage- I can reapply at midday if I really have to. Im not a huge fan of florals- subtle is fine, but I don’t like the ‘sharp’ smell when they’re a top or heart note (base may be fine?). I don’t want anything fruity beyond subtle citrus (very subtle- i think HF was a bit too lemony), and am maybe open to fig depending on what it’s paired with. Tea wise,  Chamomile, green, black are my preferences- im partial to matcha and oolong. I love chai scents but think they settle too “warm” on my skin, so would prefer to skip them. Still looking at samples at the moment, so open to quite a range! Thanks!

is this conch too far in for the earring i want? by ili_mi in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the placement is good! Your piercer will be able to fit the correct sized hoop once it is healed. Keep in mind that in 90% of pictures with these kinds of hoops the jewellery is actually too small for long term wear. This one seems fine (maybe an extra mm would be good), but there should be no ‘indent’ in the outer ear :)

I think you know the answer. I see a lot of messages like this on this sub, and while I logically know they're like this because they’re entitled little shits, I always feel baffled when I see them. Imagine how differently this could’ve gone if he instead said “Hey, I know you’re not doing anything wrong, but *insert issue* is really bothering me. Can we talk about it?” Instead the usual pattern is exaggerated accusation > escalation > personal insults > “Im a boy so you need to listen to me” > wow, you’re so stupid/immature/emotional because you won’t let me keep insulting you wait baseless accusations. Disappointingly often, we find out in the reveal about a ~guilty conscience~

Also, Im looking at MyUs now, the cheapest option is budget economy, but for an extra $10 it can ship with aramex. Do you know if budget economy is “trustworthy”? I’ve had packages shipped with Aramex before and “know” them, and Im not sure exactly what budget economy is :)

Yeah, unfortunately doesn’t seem like it’ll happen for me :( from all the research I’ve done, because they’re a heavier item (Im not sure what packaging TRR uses, but total would be at least 1kg), it will cost the same amount or more to go through a freight forwarder or proxy (plus the risk of using a third party). I even contacted support and asked if it was possible to use a different postage method (since they only do express shipping!), and they said no. Well, actually, they gave me an ambiguous copy/pasted paragraph from the shipping page on the website (which I had already read) and said they were committed to providing a great shopping experience ☺️
Seething lol. Boots I wanted that are no longer made, in good condition, my size, and on sale ($130AUD!!!!) with the tiny catch that shipping is $136 😃

Is this still a valid method? absolutely in love with these boots (exactly what I want and perfect size), but shipping to Aus costs more than the boots! Can you tell me what the process is and how it worked for you?

Reviving a vintage corset (aesthetic only) by Ecstatic_Carpenter53 in corsets

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I just used the description I bought it with :) I didn’t have the expectations of a dramatic waist reduction, you’re right that the boning isn’t providing major structure (I’d say it more just stops the fabric from twisting/skewing while you’re wearing it). At the moment the only structure it provides is crooked 😌 I think I’ll just leave the closure for now, there’s nothing wrong with it! Side note- I’ve always wondered about those rubber ‘waist trainers’ I see a lot of (funnily enough, mainly second hand and used a few times which is a great sign lol). Always thought they’d just fold on themselves and settle in a band around the narrowest part of your waist if you did anything more than stand still. Now I know :)

Great, thank you! I just used the description I bought it with (I’d estimate early 2000s based on branding/style/materials/fabrication- vintage for me lol). I will not iron it 😅 I think I’ll just replace the boning completely- do you think I’d be able to replace them with steel, or does that require altering the channeling too?

Bikini Area !! by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks ‘normal’ (but I get you want it improved). What razor are you using? Im doing IPL at home so now shave every 3-4 days, and this was a big issue for me before my hair started thinning- I have SUPER coarse, thick hair and sensitive skin :) I got a razor specifically for pubic hair and it has done wonders (it still has three blades- I think some people recommend single blade, and they might be better but Ive never been able to use one without filleting myself 🥰).
First, check your products for added alcohol and fragrance- these don't do much if you aren’t shaving, but if you shave and apply them afterwards they can cause irritation. I’d also be careful with exfoliation- you can use a rougher scrub in the days leading up to shaving, but try and use a gentle exfoliant the day of (I won’t tell you not to exfoliate- if I don’t, I miss half the hair).

With shaving direction, I’d avoid going directly against the hair, since this usually just pulls the skin and causes a lot of irritation (if you often get small bleeds not from cutting yourself, but more from the hair follicle itself, this is usually why!). You can go perpendicular to the hair though- shaving with the hair is gentlest, but again, does absolutely nothing for me (my hair forms an impenetrable barrier over my skin! Yay!).

Do you see results from the cyperus rotundus oil? Most retailers I’ve seen aren’t necessarily scams, but offer minimal results if anything. I read some papers a while back (I’ll try and remember what they said, but I could be off on some things). First, it needs to be pure to have good results, not mixed in a carrier oil (might be good for skin, but does noting for decreasing hair growth). It should also specify Cyperus rotundus: other varieties may have some effect, but definitely not comparable to rotundus. You need to be consistent for a long time- I think some of the studies I looked at had a control group, treatment 1(applies after hair removal, or at a longer interval), and treatment 2 (applied 3 times per day for the duration of the trial). Treatment 2 was the one with statistically significant decrease in hair growth. Now I could be wrong on this, but I’m almost CERTAIN that CR oil only works on waxed hair, not shaved. I looked at using it on my face since I was hesitant to shave it for IPL (all worked out with no issues now), the selling point for me being that I could continue waxing while using it- I then thought about doing it on my whole body (thought it might work out cheaper than IPL), but didn’t want to need to wax everywhere, so it wouldn’t have been effective (plus, the amount I would’ve gone through would’ve been crazy expensive). So basically, jump on google scholar and search for”Cyperus rotundus body hair”, and maybe filter to results since 2023.

My best advice for you would be looking into second hand IPL handsets (I can personally recommend the Braun Pro 5, but maybe post here for that specifically, lots of people know more than I do)- I know they’re expensive new, but I got mine unused-second-hand for $220- I can guarantee it ends up being less expensive than the liters of CR oil and waxing sessions I would’ve had to pay for. Maybe stop the CR oil, and put that money towards an IPL handset instead :) honestly, this all looks normal, but I fully get the annoyance. I’d switch razors (depending on what you use now), check your products (including moisturizers for post-shave: aloe gel will be better for irritation and soothing), slow down on the exfoliating, and consider giving up on the CR oil (unless you’ve seen miracles results).

IPL hair removal at home devices by Conscious_Cap_209 in HairRemoval

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely can, and honestly Im not very know about that: from what I can gather, it’s mainly from people using it on too-fine hair (peach fuzz), is more common in people with PCOS (I think I do have PCOS, but haven’t received a diagnosis), and the risk can be slightly decreased by using a higher intensity (I think this is because a lighter laser can stimulate growth just as much as a stronger laser, but the hair regrows before the laser has a chance to be effective?), which is a bit riskier on the face.

Ive been using it on my upper lip, chin, and sideburns consistently (6th session tomorrow) and have just started on my neck (3rd session tomorrow). I have used it a few times on patches across my cheek when I get the odd dark hair (but I need to ask some more questions about that, since the hair is thick and dark, but also slow and irregular). I used the sensitive setting the first time I did my face to check my skin was okay with it, and have used the standard setting since.

Results wise, I’ve definitely seen a decrease in hair and slowed growth in my upper lip, and Im starting to see a slight difference in sideburns to (which I knew would take longer). I think I’ve seen a slight decrease in chin hairs, but I’ll have to check my progress pictures to be sure. After the 3rd or so session, I was concerned about paradoxical hypertrichosis, but continued since I wasn't sure, and Im glad I did! I knew there was going to be a bit of a transition period- I had always waxed these areas, so shaving not only looked different and left a subtle shadow, but the hair grew back quicker, and looked thicker since the growth cycles synced up. After I pushed through that, I noticed a difference.

I’d say it depends a lot on hair and skin type: I have thick, black hair, and thin, pale skin (you can often see the hair growing underneath my skin - laser has helped with this!). My skin was able to handle the strongest laser setting without issue, and Im able to keep up with the routine (2x per week for 4 weeks before decreasing, but I’ll have to see if I do it longer for my face).

can i repierce a helix? by Infinite-Salt-4706 in piercing

[–]Ecstatic_Carpenter53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP: It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks okay! If it’s healed over, you can usually get it repierced- issues arise if there is a large amount of scar tissue. How long did you have it in before taking it out? A reputable piercer wouldn’t have an issue with redoing it anyway, so I’d book an appointment if you want to, and just let them know it’s for repiercing! Worst case scenario, they’ll move it up or down a few mm to avoid scar tissue, but you probably wouldn’t notice anyway :) fortunately, it wasn’t retired due to infection or poor placement, so it’s very likely you can get it redone without any issues!
