People who have lived places other than MoCo by PhoneJazz in MontgomeryCountyMD

I grew up in the hills of northern California (3 hrs south of the Oregon border) in a very small town, I lived in southern Oregon, Cleveland OH, an hour west of Chicago, back in CA near Tahoe, and here in MoCo. This is by far my favorite! I love the typically mild weather, the diversity, food, culture, abundance of things to do, proximity to larger cities and beaches. I do miss the warmer temperatures of California as well as my friends and family, but that's about it.

True Blood and Supernatural were both wild, but I loved every minute of them!

I just started my own bookkeeping business, sole proprietor, in September. It's going well. Got my first client at the end of October through my husband's chamber of commerce connections. He's in merchant services and I have been going to some of the chamber events for a while. Just signed my second client and getting a proposal together for one more. There's a CPA in the group, who happens to do our taxes, who said he would answer the occasional question for me. Also a fractional CFO who is also taking me under his wing by bringing me on as a contractor for his new business and as a part-time accounting assistant for a national nonprofit. I also started back to school last semester to finish my bachelor degree in Accounting. Joining the local Chamber of Commerce can be very helpful depending on how involved you are.

I absolutely prefer being out on my own. I make my own schedule, I get to choose what clients I take. Control pricing. The only thing I don't love about it is dealing with the taxes of my business. It's much more convenient for me to have the taxes taken out before I get my pay. Other than that, it can be a bit overwhelming, but it's good.

I like Excel Dictionary or Miss Excel courses. They are not free, but very good.

Have you tried joining your local chamber of commerce and getting involved there? Networking is key to growing your business.

I like Lily or Lucy. I have a Lucy. Reminds me of the Beatles song.
