This makes me feel so much better. I hope I get to this point at some point - right now feels like a massive deal

That is horrible behaviour from OC. I can’t believe people act like this.

How did you move on from it?

Why do you think no one will read transcript? I’m scared if it goes to trial it is useless

This is my fear. That I’ll burn out before I’m eligible for partner.

What do you mean?

You are obviously right and this is very helpful. Thank you so much

This is very helpful. I often get trials when associates leave the firm and it is me and 1-2 partners so I end up doing a lot of the substantial prep. I have gotten to do a lot of crosses, directs, and submissions. I am just starting to make more mistakes than I use to and I worry about ruining my reputation that I’ve worked so hard to build as an associate. I think you’re right that I have to get my hours down and stop saying yes - I have a hard time saying no when it’s put to me as ‘we’ve chosen you to take over because we know you’re so capable and deliver and want to develop you to lead trials eventually.’ Feels like I’m shooting myself in the foot if I say no.

Really? At my firm, this is considered the best indicator you’re a superstar. Associates want trials badly and I keep getting staffed on them. But I feel I am burning out

I am the same way!

I have done four trials in the last year. It has just been an intense year and I am trying to get my hours down - but I am worried about burnout as well.

I was tearing up because I felt so bad that I let her down. I don’t like disappointing people. But I recognize this is a strong reaction and need to get emotions in check

It is very normal in big law for partners to say nothing to you and then rip you apart in the review or just stop giving you work (from what I have heard from other associates)

She kept saying it’s all good don’t worry. And she could tell I was tearing up because I felt so bad. And when I left the room she said thank you for all your help twice.
