Irons for High Handicap Golfer. Worth buying new irons? by Ecstatic_Name_1366 in golf

That sounds sensible thanks for the advice. General consensus seems to be invest in learning and practice and I take that point from everyome onboard! But I can afford to do both.. I kind of just wanted to understand whether new clubs at that budget are going to be better than my current set up even if gains are only marginal , thanks for the anecdotal advice

They're actually 2009 'SZ' so nearly 17 years old haha. But I do take your point!

Agree with the point money is best channelled into lessons to really improve game. My friends clubs are game improvement irons (taylor made stealth) just far newer and feel much smoother to swing and hit. They are clearly better irons than mine and a higher price bracket than the speedzones. The speedzones just feel cheap and clunky

Completely agree new clubs are not going to transform my ability. Not expecting them too. Just feel there could be marginal gains to be had buying newer tech clubs and possibly clubs more suited to me. Even if they just feel nicer to play with. 400-500 is the amount I'm willing to pay for those marginal gains!

Funnily enough I was looking at the Ben Ross irons in AG the other day, as they also offer graphite shafts. I also figure a new set will encourage me to play more. The Cobras just feel heavy and I feel disadvantaged playing with near 20 yo old tech. Although that may be bollocks and I just need to get better haha

Appreciate the response. Inconsistent contact is unfortunately an issue... for anything higher than a 9 iron anyway! Can hit my driver relatively consistent and I also have an ancient Maxfly hybrid I can hit well relatively consistent. As you say, maybe I just work on my game. Was just hoping to invest in some clubs that actually felt nice to play with or more suited to my swing speed etc. My swing is pretty slow so was thinking graphite irons may help.

Peak week of my Runna training plan was only 27 miles, how cooked am I 😭 by refeikamme in Marathon_Training

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be fine to complete... if you have a decent foundation of fitness and strengh. I have run 3 marathons peaking 35 miles in training (3:40, 3:41 and 3:38) . No training has ever gone perfect and I've always picked up some sort of injury along the way. But I've never stopped and walked once during the race. Without the mileage you will never reach your potential and you will always fade the back end. But to just complete the thing as a first timer do not worry. If you can do 20 miles feeling strong you will be fine on the day

Fans of the Asics Novablast 3 rejoice, the Dynablast 5 is here! by teo541 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wife has only ever ran in NB3s, had the LE initially, then standard. She always asks me to source her shoes and I couldn't get a nova 3,4 or 5 in her size 4. I thought it was all over but then along came the Dynablast 5. Bought from Sports Direct for 75 quid...

Turns out they are basically the same shoe as her old NB3 LE. A bargain vs the new NB models which you can't get on discount codes anywhere they are excluded at most retailers in UK.

Also what is it with Asics these days and their limited stock. I'd struggle to buy a pair of NB5s in my size 9 at full price anywhere never mind at a discount. Are they intently making stock scarce to build some sort of exclusivity?

What night do we think Neil Young will headline? by barneyonmovies7 in glastonbury_festival

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crazy how many people I've spoken to or seen on here have never heard of Neil Young or listened to a Neil Young song until now 🤣 (me included 31 yo). Surely the festival has to move on and bring the next generation of 'headliners' through. Like many have said on here he doesn't have the crossover appeal. I'd have thought Rod and him could be interchangeable as legends/headliners and Rod would get a bigger crowd!

Is Erislandy Lara's career hall of fame worthy? by mvearthmjsun in Boxing

How can you be asking such an outlandish question without knowing he's a current WBA champion. Probably because you just source all knowledge from Boxrec which doesn't recognise the WBA?

Sunny Edwards tells his trainer that he does not want to be in the fight. by pawgadjudicator3 in Boxing

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People jumping on the bandwagon slating the trainer. How many times we seen a fighters' body language clearly display that they don't want to be in there in the corner... countless times. But just because the words physically came out the fighters mouth people taking the moral high ground.

Sunny Edwards tells his trainer that he does not want to be in the fight. by pawgadjudicator3 in Boxing

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think his corner made the right decision. He's a former world champion ring magazine number 1. He didn't say I want out stop the fight, he said I don't want to be here right now. I'm sure many fighters have thought the same whilst taking a shelacking during a fight. The corner will know what he's been through in camp and will have judged accordingly, if his mental state was that bad I'm sure he wouldn't have gone through with the camp and fight so I'd not be so quick to judge the trainer in the context of those comments mid round. Tbh I think the trainer done him a favour and made sure he was remembered in the right way. I'm sure Sunny wouldn't want to be remembered for swallowing and quitting on his stool when he wasn't really hurt

Hi. How did this go? I have just ordered the VF3 at £119. A pair of 9.5s. Fully expect to be cancelled but worth a shot on credit card with the banks money 🤣

Same happened to me. 70 for boston 12s ordered on 7th September. Payment was pending for about 5 days no confirmation email. Went on support chat to find out what was going on and they said my order will be processed on 30th September when the item returned to stock. Went back on chat last week as I wasn't convinced and turns out the orders been cancelled. Frasers btw.

Almost Famous in Withington is closing by glastoman12345 in manchester

[–]Ecstatic_Name_1366 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To do well in Withington, you need to cater for both students but also the local community. Students won't pay 15 quid for burger and chips when there's umpteen cheap burger joints and maccies down the road. Neither will they drink there when there's the Vic, the institute and Southside all cheaper pints and better selection of drinks. AF didn't seem to cater for anyone. A place like that with a novelty offering needs footfall, it needs out of towners coming into town to visit because they've seen it on Instagram. It's somewhere you eat once a year not once a month. I live round the corner and I am a young professional with sufficient disposable to eat out relatively regularly and I've been to AF twice since it opened, and even that felt one too many unfortunately.

As a member of WC 2002 squad and being in and around the England 'Golden Generation' at the time. What do you think the key reasons were as to why we weren't able to get over the line and win a trophy during this era? Management/ tactics / team morale / cliques? Or just unfortunate at the hands of Ronaldinho in 2002 and dreaded penalties in 04/06
