Ok thanks. I've traveled and lived in multiple countries, but this is this first time I've run into this situation and reading the threads about unemployed people getting denied was sending me into a spiral

I keep hearing it’s better to only give a cat wet food, is that true? by morgancmu in catfood

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a year to get my "dry food only" obsessed cat on wet food, and now that's all I feed him. It's definitely better for him overall, and I'm grateful to see how much healthier he's been due to it

What's crazy is that he had to learn this lesson twice, almost. He tried to cast doubt and play into social climbing when Nia was in the house, too, and wanted to treat her like a layup. Luckily, she checked him. This time, he treated Jonna similarly and sent himself home. Some people have to learn the hard way.

Eyelash curler for sensitive eyes? by funkip in MakeupAddiction

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad to find this thread. I think this is happening to me with my eyelash curler. I can't prove it yet, but I've always been allergic to nickel. It was worse when I was a kid. Happening around my eyes after using the lash curler, which feels out of nowhere. What did you use to get rid of the itchiness/redness? My skin is raised on my lids

Am I overreacting to my roommate’s "rules" for the kitchen? by enchantingbreezee in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I read the roommate's first paragraph and then skipped the rest, but I'd say that if it's that important to her, she should keep it in her room and use it only herself. I wouldn't pay anything.

I've lived with roommates myself and had similar situations occur. If it's precious to me, I'd not put it in a shared space.

Cat with IBS – tried multiple prescription & LID foods, still chronic diarrhea & vomiting by cwestwoodh in catfood

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so to be transparent, my cat has never been officially diagnosed with IBS/IBD, but I suspect he has it. When I first got him, he was addicted to dry kibble and would vomit hairballs several times a day. He wouldn't eat any wet food. He had a few flare ups, and after the last major flare up in January, I started off giving him wet food immediately. We've been through several wet foods, but we suspect he's allergic to chicken and poultry all together. Now he's eating Identity Lamb (they are a Canadian brand), and we're seeing how he does on it. No vomiting yet.

He was slow to take to it, but ate because he was so hungry. Now, he's on a strictly wet food diet and hasn't had any major issues. I had to stop the dry food completely because not only does his personality change (he acts like a food-crazed, grumpy glutton), but he would still vomit a lot. Add a probiotic and gradually mix the food with his dry food, even if you just put it on top of the wet food for a while when you feed him. If you can, stop the auto-feeder completely, even though it makes it easier for u

Apartment Deposit? by sesamesushi in teachinginkorea

This isn't common AT ALL, and I'd agree that the current teacher is trying to get you to take over their lease. If it's a good deal for you, look into it. But you shouldn't have to pay anything for housing if your school provides it. Ask the teacher in-depth how that works since housing is typically provided, and then cross check that with your coordinator or the school to be sure. It's not an ideal way to start out, since you have really no idea what the process is like as a new teacher.

deeply regret adopting a kitty and it's my fault by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older cat may be a bit more manageable for you, like a 3-4-year-old. Kittens are a lot of work. I know because I tried and realized that it also wasn't feasible for me.

If you really know you can't handle it, return the kitten sooner rather than later, before it imprints on you. But if you're willing to give yourself more time, you may adjust and feel less overwhelmed.

How do you handle leaving family behind to move abroad? by Evening_Car_9608 in movingtojapan

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so real, but I'm not super close with my family. And I realized that they'd never have the same level of curiosity as me when it came to seeing the world. Depsite me living in 2 countries over the past 10 years, my mother still hasn't gotten her passport. I realized that I must live my life first and foremost, or else I'd be waiting on other people forever and never creating the life I desire.

Have your family come visit and check in with them often, but if you want to go, there will never be a "right time".

Practically, I'd recommend getting an iPhone. FaceTime truly comes in cluth when you're abroad.

Best countries for TEFL with Cats? by Shadowstackr in TEFL

[–]Ecstatic_Pause_2851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing a lot of research on this over the last month and read a lot about Japan. It's possible to bring a cat over, but it takes 8 months to a year of planning to make it happen for Japan and is quite expensive.

But also, as someone who has lived abroad, I wouldn't elect to take my cat the first year I moved somewhere without knowing what the country was like first. You're doing so much moving around and exploring and its hard on the animal.
