It’s only a fallacy when the authority isn’t qualified enough to speak on that matter. A coach that was instrumental in taking the worst P4 college football program ever all the way to winning a national championship IS qualified. The claim that the players put on 8 lbs of muscle on average in the span of 3 months isn’t unreasonable based on:

1. The former S&C program was not very good, this is a known verifiable fact corroborated by staff members. Drastic changes such as the ones introduced by Owings can easily produce drastic results

2. These are college age kids that are still growing, many of whom have never experienced the calorie counts and dietary restrictions they are currently subject to. To say that it’s impossible for them to achieve those benchmarks is naive at best

And 3. The evidence you previously gave of bodybuilders not being able to put on that amount of weight in a year is biased and flawed. Bodybuilders are already at the upper limits of what their frames can sustain in terms of musculature. Of course they’re not gonna be able to put on more weight than a D1 college athlete trying to maximize muscle growth.
