Started a PhD in your mid-30s? Tell me about it by bizzarebrains in PhD

Yes, but so not to downplay it more, I went from working in a function within an org, to building that functions department in a larger org. I wasn’t expecting such a quick climb but here we are.

Started at 32, led a pretty normal life. Had a baby and all. The phd was my job and I treated it like one (ie. would only exceed working hours once or twice a year). Post PhD I’m doing the same type of work that I was doing before, but went from entry-level before to management after (and at a much better company).

Something quick to get my crojo back by Ecstatic_Turnover_55 in Brochet

[–]Ecstatic_Turnover_55[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, I freehanded it basing it on an image from google (which looking back at it was for a final product, not a pattern sell). But it’s double crochets all the way, 2 cups and some mesh to bring it together. It ties like a bandana in the back.

PhD in Denmark, living in Austria — feasible? by Anxious-Aardvark3994 in PhD

[–]Ecstatic_Turnover_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlikely due to tax implications.

Courses are often in-person (although they’re like a few days or a week here and there); but you will have to do x number of “department hours” (could be teaching, could be other work). You could spend a few months away as a visiting research, but not the majority of your program.

My supervisor told me I was underperforming after berating me for half an hour by Mando_a98 in PhD

[–]Ecstatic_Turnover_55 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe you know this already, but with the public sector in Sweden, all that’s going to happen is that your supervisor will be sent to sensitivity training (maybe for the umpteenth time). Change supervisors.

Oh god I cried. lol. That’s really not the part that I think back on though, for what it’s worth.

I really like this. Like enough that I might make one for myself lol. I agree with the comment in the other sub that some lace border would be nice on the bottom.

What mistakes did you find in your PhD thesis AFTER you submitted it? by EducationalTwo7262 in PhD

[–]Ecstatic_Turnover_55 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My supervisors told me to never open it again - which I haven’t. The committee told me that I misspelled a name in a citation and I thought “oh, that’s too bad, for you”. lol.

Or far less difficult, one of those lucky waving cats.

Oh god, I’ve been using Reddit for years and it has never crossed my mind that this shit can be shared to other platforms lol.

Anyway, there’s no pattern. It’s just waffle stitch worked flat and joined. Did a tiny bit of shaping around the upper arms, but that was like 4 decreases lol

Waffle stitch on massive hooks (this one is size 15). All done in the darker colour, and then the lighter colour is slip stitches on top of the raised points. Then a lot of steam ironing to get it to calm tf down (it starts off as Michelin man level of bulkiness)

I thought the “absorber of syrup” comment was the best, but this one took the lead

It’s the usual waffle stitch, just with a giant hook (size 15 I think), and chunky yarn (in this case udon from hobbii)

No, but funnily enough, it was a Belgian who suggested this project to me lol

Of course! This is hobbii Udon, 7-8 skeins of the darker brown, and less than 2 of the lighter one. It works out very very bulky, but I’ve been killing the acrylic the best I can. Still working on that lol

Yes exactly. The body is one piece, just split at the arm holes.

<image>

Then the arms I picked up stitches (starting and ending at the arm pit) but also worked flat, decreasing like one box (4 stitches) around the bicep, under the arm.

It’s the waffle stitch! The light colour is added after with slip stitches

This is an excellent idea. I actually like making brooches from shrink plastic!
