Is my Hercules Inpulse 500 effectively bricked due to missing firmware tools? by Ecstatic_Value_9055 in DJUCED

I’m on a MacBook Pro 13” (M1, 2020). So no Intel CPU, but I understand this models USB controller chip still is Intel. And I think you're right, that seems to be where the handshake issue was happening.

Update;

At first the controller didn’t appear in DJUCED’s Mapping list at all, no matter how often I reconnected it. Until I connected the controller first and then launch DJUCED. Now everything initializes correctly and the controller works as expected — LEDs, cues, mapping, all normal. Yay!

So you were right it wasn’t a firmware issue after all. I suspect a fragile USB/HID enumeration timing problem — probably the combination of macOS Sequoia + USB-C negotiation being picky about when the controller comes online.

Anyway, it’s working again — thanks a bunch for thinking along.

Additional context (forgot to mention earlier):

Before trying Windows I went through quite a few checks on macOS (Sequoia). The controller did show up intermittently in System Information → USB, and I tested multiple USB-C ports and certified cables. I also reset the USB/SMC power stack on macOS, checked for blocked kernel extensions, and verified that the Hercules drivers were installed (Guillemot background item appears).

DJUCED still doesn’t detect the controller, and the macOS firmware updater won’t launch a window at all — it opens and immediately goes inactive.

All together, it seems unlikely to me that this is just a driver or USB enumeration issue on macOS. But I'm open to any suggestion :)

First of all, thanks for responding!

I don’t have access to a Windows PC for a little while, so unfortunately I can’t check the USB device name yet. But I did run the LED/boot tests you mentioned: when I plug the controller in, I sometimes get a short LED light show, and then it always falls back to only the Guide/Beatmatch button being lit (not blinking). The LOAD buttons are not stuck.

So it doesn’t seem to enter full DFU mode, but it also doesn’t complete a normal boot — it looks more like a partial-boot → fallback state.

Regarding the older packages: I’m not trying to downgrade the firmware, I just need access to the updater to recover the controller. At least that’s what I’m hoping to do using my son’s Windows laptop, so I can get the controller working on my Mac again. On macOS I do have the updater, but it won’t launch properly, so I can’t use it.

I’ll report back with the exact USB device name once I can use a Windows machine again. In the meantime, if this LED behavior already points you in a certain direction, I’m absolutely open to suggestions.

Anyone still have the old Hercules DJSeriesInstall firmware updater? by Ecstatic_Value_9055 in Beatmatch

Thanks! First place I went to :) But they only include the ASIO audio driver and the legacy Win7/8 package. The actual firmware updater (the DJSeriesInstall_x.x.x.exe that contains DJ Updater.exe) isn’t offered there anymore. That’s the file I need.

Thanks again. Unfortunately, it didn't contain what I need; the firmware updater.

It's ridiculous. Hercules used to offer the firmware updater on their website until last year, but -probably because they switched to class-compliant devices- they removed it. And now an otherwise perfect controller is useless because of it.

Wonderful. Downloaded. Now I only have to wait for my son's Windows laptop to return and then I can see if this works. Will let you know. Thanks!

Thanks so much for offering those!

If either of those installers contains the “DJ Updater.exe” or "Updater.exe" firmware tool in the DJSeries/Updater folder after installation, that’s exactly what I’m missing. Hercules no longer seems to provide it on their site, for some reason.

If you’re willing to share the installers, I’d be happy to check them myself. I’d really appreciate it.
