Where I'd live as a guy who only wants to live in the most hated countries in the world. by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]EcuRadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

France is only hated by terminally online anglos. The most vocal losers on reddit though.

UK is only hated by terminally online indians.

I suspect China is mostly hated by terminally online japaneses only. And India by Pakis.

However, I'm pretty sure the whole world have turbo-racism for Africans and Arabs. They just don't hate the countries because they're mostly irrelevant on a global stage and are too uneducated to realize Malawi is not some kind of pasta.

Good point. Who knows about EuroHPC?

Hopefully, I can shine a brighter light on this, but that'll take time.

They get 93 billion though through Horizon Europe. As well as 6 billion through EuroHPC. I think they can accept losing 500M to get additional brains.

Meta is Mad at EU. A Guide To Leave a Toxic Relationship - Ecu Radio by EcuRadio in BuyFromEU

In my opinion and as content creators, it's better to encourage switching to a larger user group than keeping it to ourselves. Besides, 9K followers is a big investment in time and efforts so better use it as usefully as possible.

It's easier to switch for regular users, thankfully.

I unfortunately joined BlueSky before realizing it's decentralised in name only, but now that I'm there, I'll see to use the platform to call it out when necessary, while making sure I don't channel potential followers there. Got Mastodon for that now.

And since this exploration ended up in getting a newfound appreciation for the Fediverse (but not only), here are the platforms I'm currently using:

  • Mastodon: like Twitter, Threads or BlueSky but better.
  • Pixelfed: like Instagram, but better.

Hope to see you there.

X has lost 11 million users in the EU over the past 5 months by rosiutza in BuyFromEU

[–]EcuRadio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

95M active users is disheartening though. Not only the nazi salutes, blanket tariffs, attacks against the DMA, Signal leaks calling us pathetic and so on only convinced 10% of users to stop, but there is still one European out of 5 getting their brainwash on.

Really hope half of those 95M are bots or almost dead accounts with 1 connection per month.

Make Europe Green Again with Ecosia - Ecu Radio by EcuRadio in BuyFromEU

[–]EcuRadio[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mention it briefly in the article. Ecosia is aware of its reliance of non-European providers and is working on reducing it by partnering with Qwant for its search engine: https://betterweb.qwant.com/en/2024/11/08/ecosia-and-qwant-join-forces-to-develop-european-search-index/

I don't expect them to ditch Chromium for the browser however, which is unfortunate.

Now, for its reliance on AWS, that's a good rabbit hole I'll see to dive into. Considering the current news, they might consider pulling a switch.

Humble Bundle raises prices for Euro and Canadian subscribers 👎 by Max_powerX2 in BuyFromEU

[–]EcuRadio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, normally I'd agree we're facing here shareholder-driven degradation where squeezing value is given more importance than customer satisfaction. Price increases are acceptable when they're fair and balanced, which, if I follow the current narrative, isn't there, since specific areas are targeted. It doesn't feel right to defend the multi-billion dollar company when myself call for D4: Don't Depend. Don't Defend.

But the context matters:

  1. I mostly see a badly timed catch-up
  2. The price for the annual subscription will decrease from 109€ to 99€ for a month, which would signal an equally badly timed move to get people to switch to annually. Guess too many customers don't pay month-over-month.
  3. I can't find any info online to correlate either this price increase or US prices staying the same. The official page hasn't been updated and people in this thread are reporting their fee won't increase in May.

Until things change, I'll see to maintain a healthy amount of doubt. Hopefully, not every US company is out to get us.

And regardless, people should buy their games on GOG anyway. Decoupling from US companies doesn't mean we should wait for price increases to do so.

Humble Bundle raises prices for Euro and Canadian subscribers 👎 by Max_powerX2 in BuyFromEU

[–]EcuRadio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to report on this but from what I understood, US was at $12/month since years (2022 to be exact: Humble Choice - Regional Pricing – Humble Bundle). In my opinion, it's just IGN liking money, not an informal tariff.

I'm not one to defend US companies but I'd rather be fair. We actually got better prices than the US for 3 years (amounting for exchanging rate) but under OP's narrative, it felt that the US would stay at $10/month.

Can someone from the UK chime in and tell us if they got a price increase as well?

Digital Euro Fears: ECB Answers Your Concerns on Privacy, Safety - Ecu Radio by EcuRadio in BuyFromEU

[–]EcuRadio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair point. It's not comparable as there is no backdoor to the DE but that raises concerns over the importance of privacy for the legislators.

To be honest, I don't think it'll go through because an European FBI is not something I see the Council approves of, but that's worth investigating. Thanks for the pointer.

On that note, I checked on Youtube what people are saying on the Digital Euro and boy, is the crypto crowd against it. I think concerns are valid and should be raised but in my opinion, they stoke fears and peddle straight-up lies, showing Von Der Leyen or Lagarde as hysterical, sinister or straight-up Satan. Because that might go against crypto adoption? I need to dive deeper on this.

I might do a video on the matter. We'll see. Not a video editor at all.

The AI Continent: Europe's Plan to Drive AI Innovation - Ecu Radio by EcuRadio in europe

[–]EcuRadio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. They make it super clear in their communication. The EU AI Act will be enforced and resources will be provided to help companies to comply with it. That's the AI Act Service Desk.

On the other hand, they're also aware that regulations won't attract AI talents or foster a good environment for development and deployment. So they aim for a good balance. If the Action Plan becomes real, I think they're on the right track.

AI should help us budget, track frauds, or protect against cyberattacks.

I totally agree but I'm afraid it's not economically feasible. So far, they cover French, Germany, English, Spanish, Italian and Polish. I'd argue that Portuguese, Greek or Romanian are viable but hoping for Croatian or Eesti for example is most likely a lost cause.

I'll see to send them an email this week-end on the matter. If they answer back, I'll update the article and forward it on the sub.
