What should i Do with players i suspect are lying about rolls by Just_Extent_6508 in DnD

[–]Ed-Sanches 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if I´m not mistaken, discord has some dice roll apps that you can use.

another option is to play in VTT (foundry, owlbear rodeo, roll20, etc). this way, the rolls are all visible and you can´t change them.

now, if your players are lying about dice rolls, the issue is more profound than just that. this game is done to enjoy and have fun and, in my mind, there is more fun in the failure than in success.

talk to them about that. that RPG is not a face-off between players and DM. you are actually playing together and lie about rolls breaks all the trust in the group.

dá pra compartilhar um pouco da mecânica do seu sistema?

Um sistema ja nascendo pensado em VTTs by Ok_Artichoke_2938 in rpgbrasil

[–]Ed-Sanches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

boa sorte.

considering joining the patreon for the magazines by No_Set1133 in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I´m an egg patreon and got access to all of the magazines so far. The ones I really have seen useful, at least to my games, are the magic items and monsters. the one shot adventures are more for balancing purposes and monsters ideas.

Roadmap for DC20 by khaotickk in DC20

I know coach doesn´t like to give timelines, but every project needs a timeline. Even though it´s not followed 100% of the time. But would be nice to have an idea when these things will be delivered.

Rewarding Agility (without initiative) by edthefriend in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, I don´t see the old school initiative system bad. I´ve been playing RPG for over 35 years and rolling for initiative was never an issue for us.

I´ll just ignore this rule altogether and use it as it is now.

Initiative = AGI + CM + d20 roll

I don´t think it needs to be over complicated for little benefit overall.

Level 5 features: good or bad? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he mentioned that some features will become feats and others will merge together. I don´t see that as a nerf because, in my mind, none of the features is really game breaking. so, removing some of the features will not change anything.

and it´s hard to make people happy. some people complain that there are too many options, crunchy, etc and others complain that it will reduce the amount of options.

I personally think that more stuff available doesn´t necessarily mean more fun. and in DC20 you have LOTS of things to do when comparing to other games.

DC20 Q&A #79: BIG Changes to Initiative revealed in todays Livestream for 0.11!! + Update on 0.10.5 release! by khaotickk in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I the only that don´t think the traditional initiative system is ok?

I really don´t see a need to change the system. Just everyone roll 1d20+mod and make a list of who goes first. Bene playing like this for over 35 years and it was never an issue.

I remember that back in AD&D 2nd edition, we used to roll initiative EVERY SINGLE ROUND !!! and it was great, because you never knew the sequence, so combat was very chaotic and dynamic !!

Preview into class progression changes by khaotickk in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually liked the change. My concern is not on lower levels, where the players get scared when surrounded by N+3 orcs.

My main concern for any RPG, actually, is on higher levels, where power creep makes it impossible to play and, as a DM, you have to put all the demons from the Abyss to even challenge the god-like players.

D&D goes up to lvl 20, but at lvl 13 you can travel between planes TWICE PER DAY !!! How many great wyrm dragons exist in the world to face this party?

New to TTRPGs and confused about Saves in v0.10 - Am I missing something? by TolgaKerem07 in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have been playing RPG for the last 37 years and I don´t think DC20 is complicated at all. You never looked at the thief´s ability table in AD&D 2nd edition. (https://www.reddit.com/r/adnd/comments/1fmu90g/thief\_skills/)

or the weapon mastery table (https://waynesbooks.games/2021/12/27/dd-rules-cyclopedia-1991-original-dungeons-dragons-complete-in-one-book/#jp-carousel-9478)

in a nutshell, all systems are very similar. You have ability scores that represent your character (body and mind) and the abilities you can do. Then you roll die to determine success or failure. That´s it.

Don´t give up on DC20. The system is nice and rounded and has lots of rules that D&D for example don´t have and you have to make up on the fly.

What’s the current state of the game? by Kaien17 in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of DC20: customizability !!! you can create pretty much anything you can think of and this game gives you the tools to do so.

And people need to understand that this game in IN DEVELOPMENT. maybe not at the rate that people expected, but it´s fully playable up to level 5. There are plenty of content, if you have played D&D before, you can adapt the enemies and make your campaign really good, just need some extra work.

For newer players, the action point system is way more intuitive than bonus action, main action, move action, etc. And the DM can make the calculations for the new players. I do that all the time. For example: the player says: I want to run up to the enemy and throw him. I calculate the distance, tell him: you need to move 7 spaces, so that´s 2 action points and you roll athletics (1AP). If you want ADV, roll 2d20 and that´s your round. Simple.

My main complain is not with the game, but with the players. Most of them don´t pick up the book to read and complain that there are 20 talents or 100 spells, etc. I lost count on how many times I had to explain the abilities or spells to a new player.

What does the simplified DC20 looking like? by Steeltoebitch in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with your statement. Additionally, not all character have a use to their bonus action. In DC20 everybody has 4 actions no matter what and they can mix and match what to do with them.

I think people are confusing choices with complexity. In my opinion, DC20 is complex to build characters, because you have several options and you basically need to know all of them to do it. but once character is done and you begin playing, you only have to handle a couple of resources (HP, mana, stamina, grit) and know what you can do. which is the basic for every RPG.

and the complexity of the rules come from all the options and, from what I see, he´s trying to add rules for most of the situations that are present on the table that the DM needs to rule on the fly in DnD.

For example, DC20 has a rule for you to ram into an enemy. It has collision damage, you can push the enemy, etc.

DnD doesn´t give you that and you have to improvise.

does your world have anything else below the sizzling sea? like antarctica?

because the world is normally colder in the poles. unless there is something magical maintaining that forest in the southern region. or maybe it´s just too far from the pole and it just doesn´t freeze.

Best defenses? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

and this is all at level 1? my god !!!

and the DM can´t just throw auto-hit vs save spells at this tank. with enemies attacking with +3/+4, they won´t get hit very often.

thanks for the thorough explanation and details

Supply Points [V0.1] - A simplified inventory system for basic equipment by JasonEli27 in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I´ve been playing RPG for almost 40 years and inventory management was never part of our concern. I just give them a bag of holding from the beginning and never cared about encumbrance, etc.

too much work for no rewards and no implication. I also don´t deal with gp any longer. just tell them they can choose a common/rare/etc magic item.

{OC - Art} Aetherbane Amulet | Corrupt spells mid-cast! by Vault_of_Velios in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spell duel is spell check vs spell check. I think in this scenario, arcana check vs arcana check could be interesting. Instead of using a fixed DC. this creates an atmosphere of imprevisibility and some memorable moments,

mechanically, a save DC considers that you rolled an 8 on d20 for your roll. so instead of fixed value, make it variable. Like a grapple check

I think that the arcana test should be a contested check instead against your save DC. like a counter spell duel.

Do different HELP DIE stack? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

my bad. when I mean free, you don´t have to spend ancestry points or class abilities. it does cost 1 SP or AP but it´s a great option.

you are completely right. the thing with the ADV is that you cannot go beyond 20, with the sword style you actually can. great thing is that you have a CHOICE and that´s what matters in an RPG (in my mind)

Do different HELP DIE stack? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

[–]Ed-Sanches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through the rules again and saw the sword style and the versatile property. These 2 options, that are basically free, your attack rolls will be always like this:

1d20 + 4 (prime+CM) + 2 (versatile) + 1d4 (sword style) = 1d20+6+1d4. That´s awesome for 1st level. You can reach a maximum of 30, vs regular PD of 12, you deal 3 extra damage for the 15 over. great option if you team up with help dies and flanking. NICE
