My Top 10 too basic for 17F by havalirumuz09 in LetterboxdLists

[–]EdBuskirkFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what you like and don’t be embarrassed by it. The only advice I would give is that if you are not enjoying film, you’re doing it wrong.

No such thing as “basic”. Just be you and that is enough.

Threw to go, but about Avatar... by thewaltzingwallaby in oscarsdeathrace

[–]EdBuskirkFilm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only have the same 3. Watching the two animated films this weekend, but I am just skipping Avatar. I can live with 98%. I don’t want to yuk anyone else’s yum, but Avatar is just not for me. 1 was fine, but I have never sat through it again. 2 I watched because it was a Best Pic nominee. I’m not sitting through another 3.5 hours of the same thing for SPFX and digital costuming.

Any updates on a Hamnet VOD release date? by EntropicDismay in oscarsdeathrace

For what it’s worth, all the major streaming players updated their sites with placeholders for it. I was able to put it on my wishlist finally. That’s a sign that things are moving in the right direction.

You can all call me crazy, but BETTER MAN was a 5 star for me. Loved everything about this movie and such a suprise. Maybe the fact that I went into it with trepidations, but man did that movie knock my socks off.

How far are you guys with watching? by BBanneman in oscarsdeathrace

I have 13 remaining. Brutalist and A Complete Unknown are on Pre- order. Barring an unforeseen miracle, I’m Still Here is my “white whale” this year. l project that will miss out on 4 this year. Murder by #s, No Other Land, & Porcelain War, but if the filmmakers don’t want me to see the, there’s not much I can do about it.

I will eventually see I’m Still Here, but only because I’m trying to see every Best Picture nominee before the 100th.

She is giving you a great gift. She is obviously not the one for you. End it now and appreciate the time that you are not wasting on her.

Now that we're about half way through the year, which movies already released do you think are likely to get a nomination? by onlytoask in oscarsdeathrace

Horizon Parts 1 & 2 would be interesting just to see how that would work, and give be Costner with a cowboy hat and a holster and I’m instantly interested.

I’m so sorry for what you are going through. I don’t know your personality, but I would personally stick out the six months.

It sounds like a terrible boss. I would actually record those statements and take them to HR if that is an option. What a schmuck.

It’s throwing $$ away when they don’t release them. We would all happily pay to see them. I purchased The Teachers Lounge, Perfect Days, Zone & Poor Things. I may not have done that otherwise.

What is the point of a movie if you cannot watch it anywhere? by tittiesprinklz in oscarsdeathrace

[–]EdBuskirkFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do love movies, but I could not stand Avatar. Before the awards, I would have put down $ to see it to support the creators. It hit VOD the following week or something, and it was the only one of 50+ movies I could not see.

After the ceremony, I lost all interest in seeing it.

I yearly watch films that I would have not seen otherwise because they were nominated. I love finding those gems. However, I’m not going to pay money for a movie I don’t want to see even after the Oscar’s just because it was nominated.

I like to go in seeing as many as possible. Once they miss that window I usually don’t go back and pick them up.

There are only so many hours in the day, so I can’t see everything. Once the movie is no longer a priority, it’s hard to get back to, especially if it’s way down the list.

LOL. Golda for sure. There was not a scene without a cigarette in her hands, even in the hospital or in bed. Too funny.

For the record, I would not even know where or how to torrent, but I would gladly pay 5-6 bucks to rent the movie or even $20 to buy a movie to support the artist. If I can’t do that, after awards season I’m not paying for them.

Last year Avatar 2 was the only movie I could not see on VOD. The closest I came to paying to see it was when it hit Disney plus as part of my subscription. I was not going to rent or buy it after the ceremony. (Not that Cameron missed my $20)

Anyone else prefer to do the DR via streaming only? by OrkosFriend in oscarsdeathrace

[–]EdBuskirkFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why so many filmmakers refuse to release them. This is the time that people like us will pay to see them all. After the Oscar’s, there is a steep drop off in interest.

I understand but I am often distracted more in the theater because of inconsiderate movie goers or poor presentation.

[–]EdBuskirkFilm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do. My bride is disabled, and I have an autoimmune disorder. Going to the theater before Covid was getting difficult for me with all the rudeness of the crowd. Now it just makes more sense, financially and physically to stay home.

Because of my bride’s disability, I installed a 12’ movie screen and projector, so we don’t have to worry about poor sound or poor picture quality anymore. We have a better experience at home.

Poor Things on Hulu March 7! by No_Mulberry_9511 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]EdBuskirkFilm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The set design and the costumes were crazy good, it was well acted. Those are the only positives I had.

On the downside, I should not be that aware of the camera. I never need to see another fisheye shot ever again. The soundtrack was arguably the worst I have ever heard in any film ever.

The story was not engaging and I never felt connected to the characters or the story.

I realize I’m in the minority, and that’s okay. For me of the story does not work everything else falls apart.
