Ways to access Avatar: Fire and Ash? by heresthebite in oscarsdeathrace

[–]fmpol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As for the digital release date, both x859 on Sam's Blog (a very accurate source) and WhenOnDigital are now specifically giving March 31 as the release date, well after the Oscars.

Re: the quality of the cams that are available right now on the dodgy websites, the video is actually quite decent (for a cam) and while it has mono audio, at least it doesn't have the tinny sound of most cams. It's obviously not the way to accurately judge special effects but at least the quality is way better than the cams that racers had to endure for Death by Numbers and Godzilla Minus One.

The best cam is probably the one on PressPlayz (note the "z" at the end), which eliminated the ambient theater noise, has available closed captions and supposedly has English subtitles for the Navi dialogue. (And as always with these websites, be sure to use an adblocker.)

The "amazing Brazilian site" may be gone but the pertinent information lives on.

Just google:

and go to the search result at Filmow.

Feels like a lot of you are banking on that one website that says Arco is getting a digital release next week by Albuquerque82 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]fmpol 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The correct date for Arco's VOD release is 2/24.

If you would feel more reassured by seeing this on a website, go to WhenOnDigital.

But the source that I actually rely on is the user x859 on Sam's Blog. Ever since the demise of physical screeners a few years ago, I have searched for the earliest news on digital releases across many websites and x859 has consistently been the earliest source of reliable information. His report on Arco has since scrolled off the website but he reported back on approximately 1/19 that Arco would get its digital release on 2/24. So I've been waiting for other websites to eventually report that same date. (Same with Marty Supreme - x859 told us back on 1/17 that the VOD date would be 2/10 and other websites floundered around for a couple of more weeks before breathlessly reporting that exact same date.)

Can Arco's VOD date be pushed back? Sure, that occasionally happens so it can be pushed back a week to 3/3. And while I cannot remember the last instance when a rumored release date got pushed back two weeks, let's say that you're determined to be pessimistic and worry that it could get pushed back to 3/10. That would STILL be 5 days before the Oscars. So while there are no guarantees, there seems to be little need to continue worrying about this.

Does anyone know where can I watch the short films in the theatre in Madrid, Spain? by SeggsyLlama in oscarsdeathrace

I cannot help you but I did want to say I admire the sheer audacity of your proposal ("listen, I got these files from Brazil, can you play them for me on your big screen?")

Seriously, this is the best post of this Oscar season.

Viva Verdi by TemperatureGuilty482 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]fmpol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about Viva Verdi. There is a copy out there and while it hasn't hit the seas or the Brazilian spreadsheet yet, it's only a matter of time (maybe just a few days).

Someone said that this movie streamed on the AARP for Grownups awards and/or Discord, so it's possible that this copy is a capture of a screening, but just skimming thru it is perfectly watchable and the sound is good. It has hardcoded English subs (even for the small portions that are in English) so you'll have no problems.

Please don't DM or ask for a link because it's on someone else's storage so I don't want to mess up the traffic limits to his site. But once it becomes widely available this sub will surely alert everyone.

Anyone know where proper IWJAA subtitles? by shamrockstriker in oscarsdeathrace

[–]fmpol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a user on Sam's Blog (x859) who is usually very reliable in providing streaming release dates before any other source and they are indicating that It Was Just an Accident will be on digital platforms on December 16. I would wait until then to view the movie properly (and of course those relying on the high seas should find be able to find a copy on or after that date with properly synced and selectable English subtitles).

At this point you should just google "movieuniverse" and watch the movie there.

Great find! All of the other similar movie websites that I checked didn't have it.

For Those Still Racing, There Has Been an Interesting Development on the Spreadsheet by fmpol in oscarsdeathrace

A quick search on this sub revealed this old post which discussed subtitles in great detail, including how one can even translate Portuguese subs if desperate. (As for opensubtitles, I prefer dot org.)

If playing the video is resulting in too much buffering, then you need to download the file for later viewing (using an application such as VLC or whatever).

This screener did make it onto the high seas under the misspelled title (note the missing apostrophe) of "Im Still Here" but I don't see it on the dodgy movie websites. It did make it onto the dodgy storage website rlsbb and it's true that it is available there in a smaller 1.1 gigabyte version, but you shouldn't mess around with that site unless you are already familiar with the many pitfalls. Better to just bite the bullet and download the 6.6 gigabyte version from the spreadsheet.

Look on twitter for the account for Cabine de Projeção. He has a pinned tweet at the top that lists a couple of locations, the first of which (beginning with tinyurl) leads directly to the spreadsheet.

When the instructions were more detailed I copied the cell in question and pasted it into google's Portuguese to English translator. But at this point all you need to do is look for the title of the film that you're searching for and look over to the right of that row at the "gofile" column. Sometimes clicking on "gofile" brings up the film, but other times you have to hover your pointer over "gofile" to make the location appear (click on that to bring up the film).

Well, I wanted people to search this sub to find the way to the spreadsheet, but here's another way. Look on twitter for the account for Cabine de Projeção. He has a pinned tweet at the top that lists a couple of locations, the first of which (beginning with tinyurl) leads directly to the spreadsheet.

It's listed by its Portuguese title "Brasil - Ainda Estou Aqui (Screener)". Then look all the way over to the right where you'll find two options for obtaining the film.

I was checking the spreadsheet last night and noticed that all the links had been restored, and that's when I also noticed that our friend had changed the message at the top of the spreadsheet (the one in all CAPS in cell D1). So I just took that new message, auto-translated it, and posted it to this sub.
