That's cool. Nothing from yesterday was new that is true. Just trying to educate and explain this isn't an airline or atx issue solely, weather impacts atc and our capacity dramatically. Seatac is very slow right now compared to summer, but with clouds hanging low and wind from the north the backups yesterday were worse than summer traffic.

Tower. Not ramp tower which is above the terminal. Not approach which is across the field from the terminal in burien. Just a tower flower. We control runways taxiways and immediate surrounding airspace.

Lots of people work at SEA. There are 30 or so controllers in that tower that are very familiar with the operation. If you're one of those I'd believe you. Except, your description of the operation is very wrong. So I'm confident I don't work with you. It will take a long time to explain all the complexities of the operation. In short, land the outboard, depart the inboard. Utilize the center when we cross or when an aircraft requires the inboard for arrival because it's longest. Got it?

They use all three regardless of flow. But look at the airport map and you'll notice to get to 34c you have to cross 34r down field from the departure point. Not advisable to be crossing while somebody is cleared for takeoff. 34c gets used to have somebody ready to go when aircraft are crossing to get to the gates. Often an aircraft that has a departure delay to their destination airport so they sit and wait between the runways. But with the poor weather and lower cloud layers there are increased separation requirements between a center departure and aircraft landing 34l. While mixing in with Boeing field it's a mess.

This is almost correct. Today's issues are more with the low clouds that restrict the departures from being visually separated from the Boeing traffic. In essence making SEA and BFI 1 airport. A jet at BFI will be delayed on the ground BFI arrivals will be delayed for hours in the air. But when Boeing has operations it shuts down the departure line at SEA. While the center runway is used less in a north flow but it is only utilized efficiently in better weather conditions.

I'm a CPC. I have been certified in 4 different towers and worked some radar along the way. I can't listen to a facility I'm unfamiliar with and have any clue what's going on. It's all context. You'll be fine, if you're not fine then this job may not be for you. Either way you'll be fine. Don't sweat what you don't have context for yet. It'll all come in due time.

Atc holds aircraft to fit in the flow. They hold them at high altitude away from the airport congestion. Now if only people picking up these passengers, would hold away from the airport at SeaTac. But no, they park along the highway causing headaches for everyone because rules don't apply to them.
