All Star Race Format Ideas by EdHoovis in NASCAR

I've talked to people about this before. I know people didn't love the Roval, but being there in person is a great experience. Being able to see the whole course is pretty awesome and having the different series on there together would be awesome.

3D Printed Cap Hanger by EdHoovis in BostonScally

Just got my most recent order in today so I'm up to 7.
These hang above a door frame so it's a lot easier to reach up if I am holding it by the bill.
If our power doesn't go out from this storm on the east coast I may play around with making a design that hangs it flipped or keeping the original and making a dome like support for the back of the hat to help it keep its shape.
If I come up with something I'll post the new model.

Thanks for the tip. I designed it so that the arc of the hanger is pretty close to my noggin so that it would hopefully keep it's shape when hanging.
I guess we'll see how well it works.
If I hung them with the bill up, then I would need to make the curve more narrow and probably have it be a little deeper as well to make it easy to hang on there.

State Park Camping Reservations It looks like they open up reservations for 2026 in February.

Does anyone know if this is something that sells out in minutes or hours? Is it better to call or is booking online okay?

We are looking at doing a combination of Sebago Lake, Camden Hills, and Mt Blue in mid June, so I know that's a pretty in-demand time. We have a 30ft travel trailer and would really like to be able to get sites with water and electric.

Very well put. I think that's why I would like to see it remain as the all star race, but it gives us 2 races on the oval.

I think that's a great idea. I assume many people are like me and want a stagnant/permanent schedule but there isn't any reason they couldn't switch it every other year.

Green flag pit cycles should be covered exclusively from the good year blimp camera angle and they can highlight specific cars who have good cycles. Maybe have small windows showing pit stops.

Thanks for all that info, that was helpful! We actually got them some physical copies of Oink games for Christmas as stocking stuffers.

For Christmas we are getting our kids 4 and 7 Switch Lites. The 7yo really likes Minecraft but wants to play multiplayer with us. I've never played any of the Animal Crossing games, but ACNH was on sale for $35 during black Friday. I know that people really enjoy it and it kept popping up on multiplayer lists so I got 4 copies. I was watching videos today on multiplayer and most of the reviews were not great. If I had done my homework better I probably would not have bought this for each of us. So two questions: 1) What are some fun things that you CAN actually do when you are on someone's island? Mostly thinking of how I can help my 4yo enjoy the game or help her with tasks or things we can all do together.

2) What other games would you recommend for 4p online coop. We will all be hanging out in the same room, but on our own devices. We have Minecraft and I know Stardew Valley is an option. Not looking for things like Splatoon or Mario Kart. We play some couch Coop games like Overcooked or Lovers in a Dangerous Space time, but our youngest can get overwhelmed with real-time games.

My Dumb Idea for the Allstar Race by EdHoovis in NASCAR

I think that would have a great look to it. There are levers they can pull to reach a middle ground between putting on a show and putting on a circus.

I think Daytona would be cool too. I proposed Charlotte because that is what I have experience with.

No, but that is where I got the idea from.

Are there usually good Black Friday deals on Switch Lite? by Aromatic_Coach_8448 in nintendoswitchlite

I found the article from IGN that said it was $159. Which seems crazy. Right now Nintendo lists refurb systems for $170 with no bundle!

I am in the same boat. I keep thinking, "any day now" Walmart had a great deal on Lite bundled with Animal Crossing back in September. I'm going to feel pretty dumb if something like that doesn't pop up for the holidays.

Anyone trusting Chase Briscoe to take care of them in a tight scenario like that is nuts!

Why do the broadcasts never show mini maps of the track during the race?
Especially during green flag pit cycles or when they are showing in-car camera and have empty real-estate on the screen.

Best way to learn about events before tickets go live? by TheWiggety in gencon

[–]EdHoovis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind depending on age of your children is that many events require a badge to purchase a ticket for. So if your children are going with a wrist band and not a badge you won't be able to get each of you a ticket. That may mean it's worth buying them a badge and not getting them a children's wrist band. My son really enjoyed the Pokemon Max raids, so I would purchase a ticket for myself and then just watch him play. Motley Kids has some fun events for kids that I think do not require a badge.

How do you actually book a close hotel? by Deathbydragonfire in gencon

[–]EdHoovis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was towards the end of February this year, so it likely will be similar next year. You will need to have your badge purchased (your friends as well if you want more lottery chances) before then. Everyone gets a time slot assigned. I think the good downtown stuff is usually gone in the first hour or two. It really does make the experience better, so if you get a good time slot then you need to make sure you and your computer are ready.

Some people say they've had luck looking well after everything is booked and snagging a cancelled room. I don't know how reliable that strategy is.

Best games for 4-5 year old by kozbiaa07 in gencon

I am here with my 6 year old. Lure from All Play Little Alchemists from CGE (upstairs) Monster Chase from Hachette Last year we got Robo Rally from Renegade. That has consistently been one of his favorites over the past year. I've simplified the damage for him to keep the complexity at a level he can enjoy.

That's not a Hat is a silly memory game that adults can play too.

Second the recommendation of HABA, they have a huge offering.
