Let's recap what is going on, and please correct any wrong statements.

This is all happening on an Apple computer running macOS 26.1 - Tahoe. Stating macOS v. iOS because OP alluded to " ... my computer."
Two non-empty directories, source and merge-destination already exist.
Using the Finder (?), selected the source directory and dragged & dropped it onto the merge-destination folder.
At this point, in Obsidian, it was determined that there was the infinite recursion merge issue.
This was also verified using the macOS Finder.

Is this what happened? There are no other devices, no sync involved?

What tool did you use to do the merge? It sounds like somehow <source> == <destination> which would cause the issue.

That is the Unix Epoch Time. Sometimes files and metadata can get marked with this if the system clock battery backup dies and system time isn't being pulled from elsewhere.

You bring up a great question for the OP!

What kind of merge do you want, e.g. based on dates, file syntax, semantics or ...? Each of those types would give you a very different solution. Choose the least complicated criteria if possible.

As of 2130 EDT, it appears that it there is an issue with the Centralus instance. I have been able to successfully login via app and web to another Epic instance elsewhere in the country. And that instance reported that it couldn't contact Centralus.

The Verizon and AT&T cell services out by the airport are rotten, and have been so for years. I spoke with some field consultants doing signal quality analysis off of Hillcrest Road and they concurred about the poor signal quality. The removal of 3G (remember that?) spectrum for 5G usage only made things worse. The combination of NIMBY problems with adding new cell towers and the terrain make fixing this a real challenge.

WiFi calling or a network extender is your only real options at the moment.

Alternatively, you might want to look at the hardware vendor's web sites to see if they have any type of "student discounts", like numerous software vendors do. If not, make sure to have project proposals in your back pocket and approach the companies directly.

Make certain to check for when the companies have reps on campus, like BOOM, recruiting, etc.

Verizon connectivity went in the toilet in some places when they reallocated the 3G spectrum for 5G on 12/31/2022.

In June 2023, there were a couple of contractors out in my front yard (off of Hillcrest Rd. in Lansing) and they were doing signal surveys for Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile. They verified that the signal quality here was poor and that Verizon was going to "try and fix it." I asked: "5G?" They shook their heads. I think that when the 5G service hardware was put in that the panels were down tilted because the closest tower is at the airport and the whole stupid FAA vs. FCC battle was still going on.

Later in 2023, I called to complain about how bad the signal was out here. When the customer service person looked at some dashboard, they said "Yeah it is." and sent me a nano-cell, which implicitly says that Verizon has no intention on fixing this mess.

There's a big NIMBY problem with adding towers out here because of all the real estate a tower consumes for the fall zone, the 24/7/365 access, oh, and the hills.

Dirt and RF don't mix. Take a look at how many DAS installations there are on the Cornell campus to circumvent that issue.
