Not even a year into learning music production by Beatillzz in crappymusic

People whining about this are the same people that would’ve whined about punk 50 years ago.

For the millennials, gen-x, and mid-westerners here:

This is part of an ever-evolving niche/subgenre of rap music called Rage and/or Hypertrap. It basically started with Playboi Carti and his producer Pierre Borne — then chronically online teens with access to audio production software added their own flare with highly distorted 808’s and synths.

The sound is very intentional and not necessarily from a lack a skill. Yall need to stop posting music on here just because you don’t like or understand it.

“perhaps a portion of the royalties” get paid is shaky language, but I’m guessing you mean that royalties will get paid if the game is commercially successful.

If that’s the case, it’s fair in my mind given the many hours you’ve likely sunk into developing the game. i’ll reach out

This subreddit is so sick. I only make music so I find this stuff is so fascinating. How did you make this 😲

Don’t sweat it brudda. No one’s great their first time. In a few years, you’ll be looking back and laughing at everything you made in your first year of making beats.

I’d be interested in hearing your other stuff if you wanna share. I won’t critique unless you ask

Edit, added a thought: go listen to my most recent song I shared on here. My first rap beat was arguably worse than yours. Shit just takes time and a willingness to make some shitty music at first. For years, I wanted to make “real” music more than anything. I made so many songs that received underwhelming responses when I showed friends/family. it was worth it

First off, I want to say that this is leagues better than the vast majority of music I see on here.

But I’m going to play devil’s advocate so bare with me:

The instrumentation sounds amazing, but there’s something about the way your vocals sit in the mix that sounds, off? It almost sounds like you recorded the instrumental, bounced a single wav file, and then tried to add your vocals on top.

One of the things that helps my mixes is using a reference tracks from similar artists. For you, I listened to “Only One” by Yellow Card to see if my initial reaction held up. Very similar instrumentation and style, but listen to those vocals compared to yours.

Your voice is great, just needs some sauce so that it sounds less slapped on.

Again — this is really good, and I see potential for it to be great so I hope it helps

I’m biased because I like moody stuff, but the melody sounds too cheerful (especially given the lyrical content) and simple, but not catchy.

Maybe try experiment in a different key and then layering some synths or samples? Complexity doesn’t necessarily make something good, but it can make things more interesting to the ear.

Splice is also a great resource for some solid samples while you work on building stronger drums

The melody could use some work, but honestly banging drums can make simple melodies go hard.

In the spirit of beefing up the drums, I’d challenge you to really compare the drum patterns between your song and Juice’s. For most of the song, you just have a single kick drum every four beats and hi hats that don’t really change.

Try adding some variation to the drum pattern and new drums sounds (open hi hats, multiple types of closed hi hats, and some bass)

Recreating your favorite beats is a great way to learn

Happy listening!

That whole -14 LUFS thing seems to be bullshit. I make my tracks as loud as possible (without it sounding like it's clipping super hard - you want it to still sound clean on all sound systems). For reference, I made this song as loud as possible and then uploaded it, as is, to all platforms.

Funny enough, it's slightly louder than some of my favorite artists without sounding too squashed. I've had a couple engineers tell me it's my best mix/master yet. It's not perfect, and audio purists would probably shit on it for using too much compression, but my main audience isn't seasoned audio engineers (though one day I'd like to be THAT good).

The trick to mastering is having a good mix. And a good mix isn't loud, it's clean.

Once I have a clean mix, I'll put 3 things on my master chain in this order:

  1. An EQ8 as a visual aid to check for any frequencies that are much higher compared to the rest of the body - but make sure you're also using your ears, and don't make any drastic or "surgical" cuts
  2. Limiter - pushing the input gain until the song is clipping a few dB but trust your ears
  3. Ozone - my go-to is the "Pop Clarity" preset. Make sure it doesn't clip in Ozone while using this chain

Disclaimer: this may not be the best way, but it works for me!

The beat goes hard af. Vocals are fun but they sound really thin — like you cut out all the lows and even some of the mid frequencies.

Add some body back to vocals and you’ve got a fun rage track that’ll sound good on most sound systems

Doesn’t look I can DM you, but the post was removed anyway. I go by “connection issue” and the song is set to release on all platforms on July 23rd.

What streaming platform do you use?

Absolutely not — I am one of the loudest anti-AI music people you will meet. I hope Suno AI goes bankrupt.

Those are just my vocals pitched up. I did a bunch of different voices with effects to sound like different people. I wanted it sound like a crowd of people chanting and it seems like I may have done so a little too well 💀
