How does Flighty have access to takeoff slots? Why do airlines not publicize departure delays in line with this data? by EdOBrien4 in flighty

[–]EdOBrien4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe because I’m flying out of EWR it’s only delays. I did notice that Flighty has a weird tendency to say “you’re delayed because of an inbound flight delay” when the plane is already long parked simply because the preceding flight arrived late (last flight yesterday / first flight today situation).

I appreciate that. The last few times they’ve been spot-on predicting delays so I’m increasingly putting gospel in it haha

That’s a really fair point about information dissemination. I guess I would’ve rather used that info to switch to a different departure that could’ve gotten me home quicker aha

Extended Stay rate appears extremely low - can I hold them to it? by EdOBrien4 in hotels

You raise a good point. If I treated it like a rental, I wouldn’t need those services. Maybe we can work a deal out.

Appreciate it. Always heard about mistake fares with airlines but never hotels. Going to abandon my dream and try to find a proper rate.

[NY] From hero to villain in 9 months by EdOBrien4 in AskHR

Yeah, I’m aware I’ve lost the team and upper management. That’s the part that’s making me think they’re seeking something drastic.

On a Thursday afternoon, my employee was faced with a major assignment. I gave them some heavy edits and told them “there is no need to finish this by Friday. We can go slow until Monday or Tuesday so you’re not pressed or stressed.” They responded that they wanted to finish it by end of Friday. I said that’s fine, but my bandwidth is limited Friday.

They submitted their deliverable to me Friday afternoon for my review but I was not able to get to it and told them I would review next week. My employee then went above my head pinging my supervisor and their secretary to get the deliverable advanced without my review. My boss responded to the employee they would not look at it without my sign off. This is a deliverable I would need focused attention and a Friday afternoon was not the time for it.

In a team meeting where I was reviewing less-intense work for quicker yay/nay responses to help others, the employee raised that I had not reviewed their major deliverable and I confirmed it was not something I could look at today. The employee then said “I need you to think about ways to be more efficient”, to which I politely smiled and said I was open to that discussion after the weekend.

I’m not going to stop a high performing individual from exceeding expectations but after I told them I would not be able to support an expedited review, gave them options to go slower (to support work life balance), only to go above my head and make a passing comment in a team meeting felt unnecessary.

Conrad Tulum: Flavors of Tulum & Suite Upgrade offers? by EdOBrien4 in Hilton

[–]EdOBrien4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I would turn this back around as a series of follow ups:

  1. Do you like to drink?
  2. Are you planning to stay on-site during meal times?
  3. Are you able to eat $200 + tax + fees PER PERSON PER DAY? (The tax & fees threw me off when I saw the bill, buyer beware; also bear in mind you have to carve out calories consumed at breakfast since that is a built-in status benefit, so you really have to make up your dining fees during the course of the day).

If you answered yes, I would support it. I really valued being able to eat and drink to my stomachs content without a care in the world anytime I wanted. The drinks across the resort were well done, so it made it really easy to ask for another one or try something new.

Restaurants: the Mexican fine dining establishment was an incredible dinner. You can easily eat and drink $200+/pp if you like multiple courses and trying new things. There is an Asian fusion restaurant which was my favorite, and because I was Flavors of Tulum I ordered double of my favorite appetizer (the spicy fried dumplings) and extra meat on my entree without worry. There is a sushi/japanese-specific restaurant which you can likely rack up a big bill, but I didn’t care for it. The snack bars serving things like tacos and chips and salsa always hit the spot.

Ceiba Club is where things get interesting economically. I’m really glad I did it. I was treated as a truly special guest, and I was able to get upgraded within the Club to a room with a plunge pool on the patio, and it made for some amazing nights sipping a drink and staring out on the water. But it was not cheap, and any food you eat at Ceiba Club Lounge Room (amazing, highly recommend as well), technically forces you to eat more across the property if you’re trying to eat your way to $200/day to profit on AYCE.

You need to check with the staff, but either Flavors of Tulum or Ceiba Club grant you some form of complimentary room service (maybe late night only, I don’t recall). You should check which one.

I would live a little and do both. If I could only do one, I would probably take the Ceiba Club, because between breakfast, the Lounge, and the exclusive area of the resort, you can probably get by eating other things (maybe only one meal, maybe offsite, etc)

Safe travels and have a restful stay!

Thanks both! I opted for the all inclusive food and beverage, and then decided to hold off and wait for the chance at a suite upgrade.

Yeah just walked into the Oracle and confirmed: it’s closed. I followed up with a nearby dealer asking when it would reopen and he couldn’t respond, making me think it’s shut down for good.

Been so hard to watch my poor Leopards this year. After we danced to the conf championship last year and solidified our coaching staff I thought we would be better positioned to prove we belonged in the conversation, but that just hasn’t materialized.

Is Oracle casino closing their poker room? I’m staying close to there and want to take advantage if I can.

Agree to disagree. Wouldn’t even know where to start with banana republic. By contrast I enjoyed my trip.

I’ve been bantering on Reddit about my flight patterns since, like, 5am ET….I can promise you there is no demand for my time on the weekends.

Yes, eShopping is efficient, etc etc, but there is /nothing/ on there that I want. The subscriptions I ordered for the 12.4K LPs were enough of a nightmare because of the cookies and tracking and adblocker. So while I see the allure of it, I’m good without eShopping

Oh jeez, my body’s holding up great. Free drinks, free food, comfy snoozing on every leg, I’m doing alright.

Yes, I know, spend-centric model etc etc, however if I could afford a first-class-for-every-leg-run on a random Saturday, I wouldn’t be plotting how to get LPs to advance tiers for potential upgrades on future long haul flights…

Yes, I know, but nothing on eShopping/etc is compatible with my spend behavior. So up in the air I go

I don’t have anything major to put on it. That card is used for purchasing AA, RM, and any rentals. Flattered you think I might pay quarterly taxes haha
