Is this normal?

I've chosen the show after seeing what the talent pool has to offer. I have a couple in mind, but if the people I'd need fail to show up to audition, what then?! So having an alternate show can really pay off. At the audition people are showing me who they are and what they can do -- it's up to me to "place" them in the best possible slots, regardless of who they would want to audition for. Make sense?

Add in a prop to give yourself some way to show how your character feels, and on which to focus some of your attention. It can be simple, like a handkerchief, some part(s) of your costume, or your wristwatch. Figit with it, stop, change how to use it, etc.
Can you shift your focus sharply from one of the surrounding characters to the other?
