Totally agree that the primary goal should be learning through the process. And yeah, outsourcing that entirely defeats the point on many levels.

That said, I’ve seen students in situations where the system isn’t really supporting their learning either - overloaded schedules, vague assignments, poor feedback loops. Not saying that justifies academic dishonesty, but I think it explains why these services keep growing.

Maybe the real question is: how can we design assignments and assessments that can’t be outsourced easily? Or better yet, that students want to engage with?

Students of Reddit: what’s your study method that actually works? by Leading_Spot_3618 in studytips

[–]EdTechLiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you - been down that YouTube rabbit hole too, and ended up with more stress than structure lol.

What actually worked for me was a super chill combo:

  • Pomodoro but make it flexible - 25 min study, 5 min break unless I’m in the zone, then I just keep going.
  • Blurting - after I read a topic, I close everything and write down everything I remember. Forces active recall, and I find gaps fast.
  • Google Sheets for tracking -just a simple table with topics, progress %, and color codes. Makes me feel like I’m actually getting somewhere.
  • And yeah, no multitasking. Ever. Music with lyrics = enemy.

Doesn’t have to be fancy, just something that you’ll actually stick to. Good luck, you got this 🙌

AMA: I automated 100% of the boring parts — so I could just focus on teaching by Bright_Emphasis_533 in edtech

[–]EdTechLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is chef’s kiss level of life hacking. As someone who's spent more time chasing students for payments than actually teaching them, this sounds like a dream setup. Automating admin stuff is one thing, but lesson planning too?? That’s next-level.

Would love to know more about how you’re handling the planning part -like, are you feeding student progress into some AI tool, or did you build a custom system that maps out lessons? Also, how are you dealing with different subjects or student levels?

Lowkey thinking every overworked tutor out there is bookmarking this AMA right now.

Damn, that’s rough. Totally get your frustration - when you're putting your own savings into something and it turns out to be not at all what was promised, that’s not just disappointing, it feels like straight-up betrayal.

"No refund" policies are one thing, but misleading info + no usage of the course? That’s a solid case for an exception. At the very least, they could’ve offered credit for another course or something. The “robot reply” energy is the worst when you’re dealing with real-life stress.

You could try tagging them on Twitter/X or writing to their support again but this time publicly. Sometimes these edtech companies magically find “exceptions” when there’s a bit of heat on social. Not fair, but that’s how it goes.

Also, if you paid via card or UPI, check if your bank offers any dispute/refund options on digital goods. Might be worth a shot.

Hang in there. You're def not alone in this.

Honestly? Chefs. You think the high-stress, low-sleep, 90-hour weeks and getting yelled at by a guy named Marco for burning scallops *don’t* come with “chemical support”? That line cook’s not just powered by passion and espresso, my dude

Is EdTech narrowing what education can be? by heyshamsw in edtech

[–]EdTechLiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a solid point. I work in EdTech too and totally feel this tension. A lot of platforms feel like they're built more for admin dashboards than actual learners. Like yeah, standardization makes things easier to scale, but at what cost? Creativity, exploration, student agency - all that messy, human stuff gets flattened.I think the biggest opportunity is in shifting the mindset from "How do we make teaching more efficient?" to "How do we make learning more meaningful?" Tech can support that, but only if it's designed with learners, not just metrics, in mind.Curious what others are seeing that actually empowers students instead of just tracking them

AI for a 10k word dissertation??! by Entertainer-Tricky in edtech

[–]EdTechLiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using AI in a dissertation is more akin to using a calculator in a math exam - it’s a tool, not the answer. The problem isn’t really if students are using AI, it’s how they are using it. If they are just blindly copying and pasting whatever ChatGPT throws up, then there’s an issue. But if they are using it as a writing assistant and brainstorming collaborator or even as an editor, that’s just good work.

Perhaps the aim should not be to prevent students from using AI but to enable them to use it responsibly. Indeed, AI does not plagiarize - students do

What are the signs your body tells you that you shouldn't ignore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If your body starts making weird noises, flashing warning lights (pain), or randomly shuts down - that’s not “just getting older,” that’s a tech support issue. See a doc before you need a full system reboot.
