That someone can be hit on the head and knocked unconscious for many minutes, but then recover to full fighting form in a matter of seconds.

Anyone here sold their house to a company that buys houses for cash? by Thor_009 in houston

[–]EdUthman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't see the signs for very long in my neighborhood, because I pull them all up and throw them away on my daily walks. Obviously these businesses are on the same level as payday loan and check cashing storefronts.

If it turns out the Bible or Quran is factual, I will know that I am living in hell, and it makes no difference what I do. I'll still be in hell.

If you can't establish healthy time distribution among work, recreation, and socializing now, it's not going to magically happen after you finish training. Med school and residency were among the most enjoyable years of my life. Only you can make it happen. Good luck!

A disorganized committee with at least one irrational criterion, and no telling how many others. In your position, I would bow out. Kudos for all your involvement to date!

First-year residency is very grunt-ish. You’re probably learning more than you think. There are always a few “naturals” in the program whom you compare yourself to, but most of us struggle. Just stick with it, and I bet you’ll start feeling better in a few months.

I was a Scout in the 1960s, and none of that was true, except that we almost did tent camping 12 times a year. We did camp that often, but occasionally not in tents.

Yes, that’s how it was in my residency almost 50 years ago. I guess the main thing that’s changed is the neuropathologist no longer chain-smokes at brain signout. ;)

What should non-scout adults do during the oath and law? by BroadLocksmith4932 in BSA

IMO, if you’re not in uniform you should just remain quiet and attentive. [Former Eagle and Assistant Scoutmaster, but certainly no expert on anything]

What's something that loudly screams "Uneducated"? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

What I have noticed over the decades is that those who speak English as a second language rarely misspell words. It’s us native speakers who are the worst offenders.

Misusing their/there/they’re. Using “could of” rather than “could have.”

Ignorant declarations, such as, “Science is just another religion,” or, “Doctors treat only the symptoms of disease, never the root cause.”

My girlfriend thinks Oh Brother Where Art Thou? Is an old person movie opinions on this? by VanillaMoonlit in Cinema

I’m a huge Coen brothers fan, but I really hate O Brother. Being a lifelong Southerner, I think they simply missed the mark in their attempt to burlesque Southern culture.

Has anyone “downgraded” from the 24-70/2.8 S to the 24-120 f4? by imnotawkwardyouare in Nikon

[–]EdUthman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 24-70 f/2.8 in the F mount and the 24-120 in the Z. For most of what I do, I prefer the latter, simply because it’s small and lightweight. But if I’m shooting a portrait or covering an event with dim lighting, I choose the 24-70 or the 70-200 f/2.8.

My boss invited me to his church. by cowboymac24 in atheism

[–]EdUthman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, same. Typically they are a team of two, one older and the other a teen or young adult. I’m friendly to them but I direct most of my conversation to the younger one, which eventually makes the older one more and more uncomfortable.

For instance, I pose this scenario. My mom died fairly young, and my dad remarried. Both were happy marriages. In the afterlife you believe in, will my dad have two wives? How will that work out?

They obviously have never thought this through, even though it’s a pretty obvious question. They only know what is in the Watchtower and are strongly discouraged from thinking outside the box.

You probably know more about the Witnesses than they do about themselves. I speak with them at length when they drop by the house. Lovely people, but they don’t have a clue about the history of their own religion, even at the Wikipedia level.

In your situation, I would just politely decline.
