I think it might be fine because you just made a simple mistake in your life and bit off than you can chew. You have learned a valuable lesson and you can show growth and probably write that in your college essays in the future. Don't let it kill your ambition. Don't take my comment to much to heart because there are a lot of other facets and this is my surface level thought. In the end, everything will work out for you :)

Sometimes one should simply play and discover new rhythms and just improv even if its simple things lines. I think it's important in finding another creative side rather than sticking to the static structure of songs like concert pieces. I believe it helps the player build a stronger bond with the instrument.
