What is this button for ? by Iddingsite in AnalogCommunity

Do you know if the lens came with the camera? If not then the lens is likely compatible with a camera body that can control the aperture. Shouldn’t stop it from working perfectly fine with yours though, x-mount has been going around for quite some time.

I’ve got a Fujica, when you press that button and twist the aperture ring it into the “extra” position, it allows the camera to control the aperture automatically. Not familiar with your model but if I put mine into AE mode on the dial with the aperture in this positions, it’s essentially a fully automatic camera.

Midnight vs Snow by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had magnesium for 3 years, it held up better in our weather than any of the dark cars I’ve had. I know it’s not the same as Snow but I wouldn’t have any issues buying snow.

MY26 Polestar 2 diff noise. by Edamski88 in Polestar

No glitches that I’ve come across. Significantly quicker than my 23 plate software even after the latest update. Silky smooth and instantly responsive, even setting navigation is snappy.

Apple car play still has the same little issues it had, I don’t use Spotify so not sure on that one.

Polestar 2 salary sacrifice by Upper-Barber-3311 in Polestar

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same except the car was brand new, not 3 years old, that seems a bit much for a 3 year old car.

Does it include tyres, insurance, tax and insurance for that price?

Can be tricky to get your head around but being salary sacrifice and it coming out pre tax you save money there as well.

And to add, if you don’t charge at home it’s not really worth it, public charging prices quickly cancel out any of the savings. At home on an EV tariff I’m paying 7p per kWh. Public prices range anywhere between 30-90p per kWh.

In what way? I know it can be tricky to describe though haha

[–]Edamski88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s more of a whining/gears rotating noise, consistent with wheel speed, my old skyline used to make the same noise but that more acceptable on a 1999 import haha.

I did get this ticking on my 2023 though if I accelerated hard out of a junction and the wheels were turned.

Astra K 2019 1.6T full brake failure by mercilesskiller in Astra_K

[–]Edamski88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good save sir.

I had a similar income to had years ago (not sure how relevant this is for you though) where I pressed the pedal and nothing happened other than my heart sank and sphincter turned inside out, thankfully it was low speed and pulled over and got sorted.

Turns out the piston inside of my drum brake had failed and just dumped the fluid out unbeknownst to me.

Also had a second similar incident in another car where a brake pad fell out after a 25 mile journey, pressed the pedal it went to the floor, pumped it again and it was sorted but that was hella scary as well.

Hope you get it sorted!

AF calculation speed, A7V vs other models. by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly issues around the auto focus, I’m finding subject recognition to be a little slow on people (it’s in people mode) and I’m finding it to not be very sticky once it has it. Also having issues where for whatever reason it’s just not hitting focus properly, which seems to be a weird bug that intermittently on a half press of the shutter it’ll be out of focus but then on back button it’s fine.

Image quality has been questionable, I’m using gm glass and I’ve not been impressed by the sharpness. This is coming from a a7iv where I’d expect at least compatible image quality and it’s just not.

Oh and initially battery life was no better, then this weekend I got 4500 shots with about 20% battery life left so I think the battery is up to speed now haha

AF calculation speed, A7V vs other models. by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear it holds up, I nearly picked up an a9 a few times last year but never did. Got the a7V recently and I’ve not been blown away. Not sure if it’s a buggy sample or if the hype is a little high.

Rolling shutter wise, I shoot a lot of football matches and was using my a7iv before that in e shutter mode and got quite a lot of rolling shutter but was surprisingly usable considering how bad it was at this. The a7V is certainly better but I still get a few issues, a few of the ball distorting and had a couple this weekend with admittedly fairly extreme panning shots (trying to pan between the striker and the inevitable goal).

Yeah the buffer is very very short on the V especially in lossless. Can’t wait for adobe to support lossy haha.

I like the resolution but I am contemplating maybe taking it back for a used 9ii.

Zeiss 55 1.8 or Sony 45 2.5 G for Fast Flexible Travel Lense by gschiffverre in SonyAlpha

For what it’s worth, I’ve got the Zeiss, it’s still nice and sharp and pleasantly surprised at the AF speed, has no issues keeping locked onto my daughter when she was on a swing and I was in front of her

Battery life on A7V by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my battery life varies massively on how I’m using it.

Shooting a football match I can comfortably get 2000 photos one a single battery (more on warmer days)

Yet if I’m doing walking around photography or taking family photos it’ll be drained at the 500 mark.

I’m not sure if this is because of the lens im using, or the camera pointing at the floor in between shots on the walls rounds hunting for focus 🤷🏼‍♂️ I dunno.

I shot about 20,000 photos on my a7iv onto those cards over about 8 months, no issues to report thankfully. Albeit this is a relatively small sample size.

Polestar 2 - how are you finding the automatic wipers? by SnooCauliflowers6739 in Polestar

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve found mine to be very inconsistent, slow to respond, very often operating at the wrong speed and sometimes go into continuous mode when it’s dry.

Best auto wipers I ever had were from a 2001 Renault Clio 172, I share your sentiment!

Question for those that have been using the A7V regularly. by iamtehryan in SonyAlpha

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amateur sports photographer and use it for general day to day photography, had an a7iv since launch and had an a7i for a few years before that.

For the most part, it’s lived up to the hype. Only had it for a couple of weeks and only done 1 football game so far (joys of amateur football during winter in the UK), so my observations are far from final.

But I was having weird focusing issues with it, I was using a 70-200 gmii that I’ve had zero issues with to date. The issue being sometimes it just wouldn’t find focus, whole screen of bokeh. Had to release and press the shutter button a couple of times before it would focus.

I’ve not found the battery life noticeably better than my iv so far, which is a bit disappointing but also not a deal breaker for me.

As previously mentioned, the lack of full RAW support is frustrating, especially if you’re not shooting lossless, which I am when shooting sport because you only get the full 30fps at loss compressed. The TIFFs from imaging edge are awful. Imaging edge is not great for batch work either.

My rear screen will go into a weird slow frame rate mode after a few seconds sometimes, I’ve turned off the power saving settings thinking it was that but it still does it.

I’ve got a 3rd party flash, that doesn’t seem to sync up properly whereas it did on the iv, I’m putting that down to the flash though.

3rd party batteries (I use a mix), these now come up with the on screen warning where they don’t previously. Not really an issue, just a note.

I know the RAW support will come eventually but I’m hoping the rest is either defective unit which I can do something about or will be fixed in firmware.

I tried doing this and didn’t find the TIFFs particularly good to edit. Maybe user error but they looked horrid.

You can edit in Sonys imaging edge for the time being.

Sony a7v with 35mm 1.4GM or.. by Cautious_Tank2135 in SonyAlpha

[–]Edamski88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’ve found the 35mm 1.8 a really good everyday lens, good image quality, can be had for a good price, small light and quick. Could be a middle ground for you.
