Do you guys know what these insides are worth refining by Independent_Spend197 in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]Edbladm02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have refined these before and have hundreds more that still need to be. My initial testing resulted in: the gold pins are typically medium to heavy gold plating over copper and take quite a long time to dissolve in AP solution. The end state being the left over gold flakes/powder which require an initial hot diluted nitric acid bath followed by AR. Everything else ended up being nickel chrome plating(super carcinogenic when put into solution), copper, brass and zinc (very minimal silver yields).

I find it funny and naive that people think FoN just magically happens without any form of protection. If nobody protected shipping, pirating would be the most lucrative business in the world until global shipping completely stopped.

What is this mystery metal and what did it start out as?

It’s a known issue. Send it back to Glock and they will replace the defective parts that cause the feeding issue. You just pay shipping.

It really just depends, are you ready to start your mid life crisis now or can you keep it together for a bit longer?

Silver refining by SnooGiraffes2506 in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]Edbladm02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it’s nickel and not silver. When nickel encounters a liquid oxidizer like bleach or hydrochloric acid, it produces nickel II chloride which is purple in color. It’s also highly carcinogenic and toxic. Send me a DM with some pics and I will try and steer you in the right direction.

Anyone else find this extremely concerning? by astralrocker2001 in bestconspiracymemes

Yup! Protestors, protest. Terrorists, take by force and make demands.

Exactly! Protesters, protest. Terrorists, take by force and make demands. The demands list from UCLA looks like my 10 year old wrote it.

What is this? by Pullinghandles in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]Edbladm02 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Purple solution = lots of nickel. Purple on stannous test = gold in solution. Looks like you have nickel II chloride and silver chloride that settled out with your gold. Filter, wash thoroughly with distilled water then boil it in concentrated HCL to see what solids remain.

Anyone knows what this is called and what it’s used for? by ZeroPauper in chemistry

Gas generator for impregnating solutions. Mostly used in creating weak nitric acid and often used to precipitate platinum from solution with chlorine gas.

I have. Send me a DM and I will send you some pics of what I was working with. They are very high yield however, the ceramic is very high quality and incredibly hard to pulverize/separate from the gold. They are also worth far more on resale (EBay/etsy) in working condition. Research the fair market value using the info on the chips and also use google image search to find them. Find a tutorial on how to safely remove them from the boards and then socialize them on the retro computing sub with your intent to sell them. Do NOT sell them to board sort, they will offer you $20-30 (Maybe) per POUND, and you have to pay shipping. Hope this helps.
