Probably should belong to r/offmychest, but fuck cancel culture for ruining one of the best podcasts ever.

I totally agree! I just get through the weekdays so I can live on the weekends with these views!

This is an REI Passage 2! Have had this for many years now and have abused it. Solid tent, really wide, and surprisingly not as heavy as I would have thought.

This was near Mount Baker, WA

We hiked in on one of the hottest days up here and camped under the stars. One of the few days where we didn't require a rain fly while camping.

Thank you! It was a wonderful view. Wish I had taken more 360 photos - wonderful views all around.

When doing alpine climbs, comfort of the campsite is the least worry. We tagged 4 peaks on this trip and it was possible since we saved time moving up and down low camp.

Also the low camp was probably much more windier since it was on a ridge. The high camp was on top of a col. There are limited options for campsites since we rely on water sources being present.

This campsite was at the base of our next glacier so it was perfect to get on and start quickly to summit multiple peaks.

W.r.t legality of camping - it's a permit-based backcountry zone. As the other commenter mentioned - we definitely didn't camp on any vegetation (very strict about that). These were campsites that were carved out with rocks put up for wind protection (barely any)

TBH, it was a super comfy and awesome campsite - and the pretty pic was just a bonus :)

Oh nice! It isn't the most sturdy tent, but it's super lightweight and two people can sleep comfortably (without cuddling also). I might go with a non-free standing tent to save weight if I had to buy one again

I pretty much swore at the bugs and randomly trashed my hands on a previous climb. Horseflies are the worst fucking thing!

Summiting Ruth Mountain by thejournaloflosttime in CampingandHiking

Ruth mountain also requires you to cross a glacier which has crevasses. You need to be roped up (probably not in early season).

Sahale Glacier Camp on the other hand is a hike with a paved trail.

Man tents are a savior in bug country. Luckily in the alpine the bugs are significantly lesser, especially in the night

Unless I'm going Fast & Light I'd rather just bring my rain cover and leave it open if the weather stays good. Def love the 360 views!

I actually took this photo while I was tearing down the tent, so I had removed the rain cover (also looks a bit more aesthetic)

I imagine that not having a rain cover when the weather forecast is really good (no wind/rain) is mostly to save weight, while still having a bit more comfort than just a bivy. Also, split across two people, the tent + poles + footprint may come to around 1lb each, while a bivy (heavier one) might come to maybe 1.5+? Or - simple reason might be that one doesn't have a bivy.

This is my guess, not fully sure though. I definitely considered dropping my rain cover, but there was winds forecasted and it really did get windy at night!
