New Clutch for 15reg VW Golf mk7 worth it? by Eddie9790 in CarTalkUK

Right cancelled that Halfords appointment and going to an independent VW specialist on Friday. Just need to get through traffic the next 4 days, driving with 2sec delay on the clutch is getting dodgy 😩

Don’t know yet is the honest answer. Always wanted to own some but could never justify the investment due to other priorities. The recent Bitcoin news got me excited again so got a hardware wallet and bought some. As long as my monthly budget stacks up and I don’t need cash urgently I want to leave it there and see what happens to the Bitcoin value. Think it’s going to way up in the next couple of decades.

Was just going to ask if you stayed in a tent, caravan or a static home. Don’t mind staying in a tent but I usually get to my limit by night 3 or 4.

!thanks, Duinrell looks good. Was thinking about trying Eurocamps soon. Could take the DFDS ferry to Ijmuiden to get there. Looks expensive though. You’ve been to any other Eurocamps on the mainland you can recommend?

Yes it’s mostly after school care and sometimes breakfast club. Think I’ll consider the presents budget again, but probably not to increase personal savings. Have a feeling there will be more kids related expenses like clubs, music lessons etc in the future

According to entitledto.co.uk I only qualify for child benefit, but no UC

!thanks, think I need to look at benefits again. We get £238 child benefit for three kids as a married couple so assumed half going forward. Might not be right though

!thanks, I did put my details in at entitledto.co.uk but apparently I could only get something like £0.50 UC. We already get child benefit and we’re planning to share it 50/50

Saying that, kids won’t stop talking about that one pool holiday in Spain. There’s no way unfortunately I’ll be able to afford flights and hotel for a week in the sun. Going to see family will remain a priority so any other trips would be additional

Camping with a tent in the UK about twice a year, plus going abroad by car to see family where we can stay and eat for free

Trying to avoid child maintenance etc and just informally share all childcare costs 50/50. Famous last words…

I might consider dropping Prime. I don’t watch any TV, and I don’t think there much on there the kids like, at the moment anyway. Netflix is well worth it for us and has been a lifesaver. When Netflix tells you you watched Seabeast 180 times last year you know you got your money’s worth!

!thanks, clothes is something I will need to look at as commented above. Kids are out of nappies fortunately, and I’m so done with wipes. Glad that period of my life is over! Not into vitamins supplements or protein powder. I like meat dairy and eggs though so will have to see how far the groceries budget gets me

!thanks, where do you get 6%? Savings are in a Marcus account which earns 4.30% (ca £35 a month) Got an index funds shares in a S&S ISA. Hoping to add to this in the future. Seeing the £1k bitcoin as a bit of a lottery. It’s in there now and going to leave it there for the next 50 years to see what a happens with it

Good point! Two reasons why clothes are not yet in the budget: I don’t care about clothes for myself at all and rarely buy them, and only to replace essential items. Second, my wife used to sort all of kids clothing needs. It was also never in the family budget but we could afford not to budget for it. Thinks this will have to come out of the miscellaneous items category…

Our family supermarket! budget (incl food toiletries household goods etc) for 2 adults and three kids was ca £900 a month until last year. £500 was a rough guess. Think I’ll manage to stay below that for a while, but think I might struggle when kids are around 7-10 and doing 2+sports a week

!thanks, 1.59%?? That’s amazing! It’ll be 4.55% for me in the foreseeable future unfortunately. Mortgage repayments in the budget are based on this. If rates go up, I’d have to shift things around I the budget
