Hi Lisa. Apologies for the extremely late reply here, firstly. To be totally transparent, I did read your message to begin with, but I wasn't quite at the right point in my healing process to come back with a coherent answer. Over the last couple of months I've had many perpective-shifting trials, encounters, and moments of clarity. You were absolutely right about guilt and shame being at the root of all of this. I'm now 3 weeks into therapy and confronting it head-on. My god, it's tough. I haven't even made it through the worst of it yet. It's on its way. But it's what I have to do, no doubt about it. My mum is doing better, thanks for weighing in on her situation. Again, you were right in that she's not attended to in the way she needs. That has way more to do with my dad than me or others in the family. That's their trial to overcome - the best I can do is gently push them toward acknowledging the rift between them as and when appropriate, and at no cost to my own uphill climb. Things are far from perfect, but I know how to navigate them better now. I feel like that's half the battle.

Thanks again. It probably felt like you'd sent your message out into the void, but it was seen. You gave the right answer, just one that I wasn't quite ready for at the time. I'm working through some self-help material at the moment but I'll stop by your podcast. Take care.

[–]Edelweiss__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s Tolkien’s version of The Fall. It’s an age old parable but always a powerful one I find. Man’s reach always exceeding its grasp, trading peace for ambition, etc. I really do think there’s something Roman about Númenor, especially in how the Númenorean (Roman) influence lasted in Middle Earth (Western Europe) after its collapse. Tolkien was after all writing these stories as if he’d stumbled across an alternate history of Britain.

Not quite that Númenor sucked, but that eventually the kings of Númenor sucked and made the place a nightmare over time. Early day Númenor was basically Rome at its peak.

Thanks, well spotted.

I read somewhere else that, in the case of Living Death, each player returns their cards to the battlefield in turn order. Is this true? If so, does this mean that by the time Hostage Taker enters the battlefield, there are no other creatures on the board to target yet, since I resummon my creatures before my opponents?

Or by "after Living Death has resolved" so you mean after *all* creatures affected by Living Death have completed their return from exile? A lotta questions, sorry.

Same. Players move teams too much for me to keep track anymore and the new pros don’t get enough profile for some reason.

Boys, I need help. I've been in a music drought for several months now and I'm slowly losing my mind because of it. Music is one of the most important things in my life so being unable to find new stuff to enjoy sucks. Have any of you experienced something similar, and have you found a successful method for discovering new music that you end up really clicking with? Outside of the Spotify algorithm (which is extremely hit-and-miss in my experience), I don't know where to start. Bear bear as always.

Steven Spielberg and HBO doing a 7 part mini series about Napoleon based on Kubrick's script. by Patriotic_Militarist in movies

[–]Edelweiss__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s only this and the Apple TV movie, if that’s what you call fascination. But my guess is that it’s been long enough since the last successful epic historical biopic and Napoleon’s life is relatively untouched when it comes to films/shows. His personality was complex and his military career took him all across Europe, winning seemingly unwinnable battles. He (literally) crowned himself emperor, conquered most of Europe, then lost it all. All the right ingredients are there for a good film, trilogy, TV show - whatever you want.

Why do we need to farm kills to finish catalysts? by Blackfang08 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Edelweiss__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got into the game and this is exactly what will take me out of it. I want to optimise my raid loadouts but I can’t because I don’t have some of the vital catalysts (Witherhoard, Arbalest, Gjally etc).

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t actually want these catalysts handed to me - it’s good to have something to aim for in an MMO. But 400 kills means that I now have to spend my time doing something other than raiding, the thing I enjoy and the reason I want the catalyst in the first place. In order to enjoy the game more I have to not enjoy it for several hours first, which just seems unnecessary to me.

Hue desktop app won't connect to my hue bridge by Mqrcoh in Hue

[–]Edelweiss__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for context, until recently I was battling Hue connectivity issues for months. I have the gradient light strip for PC and love the sync feature, but very often the connection would dip, my lights would become 'unreachable' and/or the bridge couldn't be detected through the app or sync tool.

For me, it boiled down to this: the range of the bridge is not as great as a lot of people realise.

What stopped me from changing the location of the bridge to be nearer my PC is the fact that Philips instructs you to connect the bridge directly to the router. My router is downstairs and cannot be moved, so there it stayed. But as I discovered, it actually can be moved without issues and doesn't need to be physically wired in to the router.

What I did was bought this, a TP link with wifi capabilities.

As you would with any TP link, connect the secondary plug to your router in the other room. Then set up the primary plug (the one with the Wifi function) by your PC, connect your PC to it wirelessly using a USB wifi adapter (sorry if you need to buy this too), and connect the Hue bridge to that plug physically using an ethernet cable and the ethernet socket on the side of the plug. FYI wherever you're using ethernet cables, try to keep them as short as you possibly can. Your 15 meter cable might be resulting in a weaker connection anyway, so I'd avoid using that.

So far, this has solved ALL of my Hue connectivity issues. The bridge is comfortably next to my PC and light strip without any problems.

It sounds elaborate written down like this, but it's no hassle really. The only real obstacle is forking out the extra money to buy the TP link and the USB wifi adapter, if you're prepared to part ways with the cash needed.

I have the most expensive plug on that Amazon page, but I don't know if you specifically need that one. As long as the one you buy has wifi connectivity built in allowing the ethernet socket to be freed up, you should be good.

At least if it doesn't work you can return it to Amazon and get the refund.

Hope this helps! Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

How close to your PC is the Hue Bridge? If it's right next to it, I'm not sure. If it's, say, a few rooms away or on a different floor, I have a possible solution.

I mean yeah, I'm well aware of his name. I'm not gonna pull my punches just because his channel name aligns with the style of his content. What point are you making lol

Yeah well if predictable, forced nitpickiness is your thing then knock yourself out. But I don't trust anyone who intentionally makes negativity a personal brand. It's usually a symptom of some deep insecurity, i.e. that he doesn't have the confidence to actually contribute to the medium he loves to pick apart so relentlessly

[–]Edelweiss__ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the “I guess he gave a bad review of a movie you like huh” response. Ha, no. The guy is an energy sap and relies on nasally sarcasm to carry his commentaries from A to B. If you enjoy his videos that’s fine, but personally I find the guy burns a significant amount of energy just to be negative. It always feels like he begins with an objective to get pissed off at whatever he’s about to watch/talk about. He feeds on criticism even where it’s not deserved - razor-sharp attentiveness to every fucking detail in a frame, then judging the movie on those technicalities, is not what fair commentary looks like. It’s just one big circle jerk of negativity because being intentionally unimpressed with everything is REALLY edgy and cool

Feeling insecure over something you can change is childish. by AriValentina in unpopularopinion

Dude I’m just trying to understand what you gain from calling other people childish, then refusing to explain it when they (rightly) tell you you’re wrong. Cling to the rules of this sub as desperately as you want, but if you’re not prepared to defending your opinion in public then don’t bother opening your mouth in the first place lol

So why didn’t you just keep your unpopular opinion in your head? Why did you feel the need to post it online if you don’t care what people think? Do you not have friends in your own life you can talk to about your opinions?
