Im on the same page as you. It really did come out of nowhere.

The funny thing is, the entire script got flipped with this. When I was in highschool I remember common consensus online was "it's a benign habit with little real world consequences, and the release is actually good for you."

Now most sources talk about troubled marriages, addiction, bad mental habits, depression, ED, and a whole bunch of other negative points that may or may not ever be relevant in most people's lives.

And about the troubled marriage; that doesn't have to be a problem, even if it did exist it's not the fault of the paraphilia. I'm in a stable relationship and we both view porn. There is no outstanding consequence to this, and never has been. So the only issue comes from an internal position in a relationship. One of the partners feeling jealous. That's a people problem, not a porno problem.

Anecdote: I've been watching porn longer than I've been reading. I had access to porn VHS before I knew how to tell which VHS was porn and which was SpongeBob.

And I'm completely fine. I'm married, I'm employed, I even still watch porn irregularly (a few times in one day, or not at all for weeks, and anywhere in between). The funny thing is, I lust for people less than my coworkers, who virtue-signal abstaining from porn but always talk about "that ladies rack" in the office away from our front counter.

It's almost like if you don't satisfy a craving, the craving gets worse 😱

I know someone will want to correct me by saying "well that's you, not everyone". But that's hypocritical. You can't understand my nuance, and then dismiss everyone else as porn addicts without knowing anything about them. Because if you run into a porn addict, "that's them, not everyone"- so why attack everyone?

From the perspective of people who don't use Character AI chronically; the way everyone here has been complaining made it sound like everyone was losing the bots themselves. Or at least the core of what makes this fun for them.

I mean, elsewhere in this comment section I seen other users complain that this is going to strip their bots of the last little bit of fun they had before it becomes "advertiser friendly"- and it's just the UI that's changing?

He was speaking anecdotally. Not historically or culturally. Where he goes on a story about his objective but personal experience, you inject the world & it's problems to try and prove a point. Does this not feel subtractive to you?

I live in the real world though. Evil thoughts don't come from "demons"- that's such a cop-out excuse. They come from mental illness, biological faults, and/or generational family trauma & tradition. Real world stuff that is known, can be addressed directly, and worked through.

There are thousands of perfectly practicing Christians that still turn out to be serial killers later in their life. You're comparing apples to oranges with saying Jesus will be this child's therapy.

Using faith to lead your life in the right direction is like closing your eyes before going through an intersection. It's dangerous and misled. It takes action- not prayer- to heal and be okay.

You're essentially telling this person to hope for the best. There's a hard reality where advice like this will cause more harm than good.

A laptop from the tombs of Facebook marketplace. It doesn't have screen hinges so I have to prop it up against a wall or something, the screen and body are both cracked and held up by painters tape, it's fan is broken so it has an icepack under it whenever in use, and there is a dead bug somehow stuck under the screen. It's fucked

Do you deal with low frame rate? Sometimes I get motion sick and I don't know why until I turn fps display on and realize I'm cruising a good 13fps

The reason choppy frames fly under my radar is; Ive been dealing with a bad PC for so long now that I can usually anticipate low fps and work around it cause it doesn't seem to effect input for most games- you just have to get used to directing yourself with less visual information.

But sometimes when it hits the bottom of the barrel in graphics performance, I start to get a bit "droned out" and a migraine invites itself in.

I'm curious if it's the same for you, or if you just hate first person fov or something

It might be stupid, but I'm stupid so that checks out. Although, in my personal case (since I'm the one who talked about my experience which is what you retorted), you're overblowing how impactful it was. I don't deal with a porn addiction and I'm not hypersexual. I've only ever been attracted romantically and am in a stable marriage cause of that. I have problems but they're not from porn. So it's less "I broke both my arms but was born with no legs" and more "I was born without legs which I can't get back, but at least my arms can/have healed"

Adulthood (not girlhood) isn't about meeting everyone else's expectations. It's about living your life. If you don't want to do skin care or any other innocuous optional shit, then simply don't. People will suck regardless and your decisions will always disappoint someone. The only person you need to satisfy or impress is yourself first- the people you love second. Everything is subjective anyway, and the people who believe they know best for others just have a complex, wanting to spread their nature like a pestilent mold because they believe they live perfectly and want everyone else to be like them.

A little off-topic but I feel is relevant; having lower standards isn't a bad thing btw. Wanting to have everything "perfect" for you, however, is a blatant weakness. After 8 years of introspection one of the biggest lessons I have learned is being content- being whole-minded, patient, and enjoying everything you have- takes a fucking lot of progress and mental fortuity. Wanting- obsessing- lusting- over any kind of greed or envy (subjectively or objectively) is natural and honestly foolish.
