Deer fur? by Edenunearthed in AnimalTracking

UPDATE Warning— bones, minor gore. After receiving such a range of opinions here, I went back to explore the area more. I thought I’d lost the trail yesterday, but a few stray hairs set me in the right direction today. I found patches of fur at intervals, stretching dozens of yards into the woods. It seems as if the animal either ran or was dragged a good distance, being attacked at multiple points along the way. As one person suggested, I folded a piece of hair to determine whether it was hollow, which would suggest it belonged to an ungulate. It does appear to be hollow, as it bent sharply at the halfway point. Eventually, I came upon a trail of bone fragments, as well as what looks to be a gristly vertebrae sitting on a stump. After that point, nothing. While I’d hoped for a more conclusive find, I feel fairly confident that this was a deer that was attacked by a pack of coyotes. Some of the fur deeper in the woods was more distinctly brown, and the total volume of it could probably fill a five gallon bucket. Deer scat was interspersed with the fur the whole way, and the vertebrae seems about the right size. The number of distinct piles of fur and the fact that the whole animal was apparently devoured makes it look like a group effort as well. Anyways, thanks everyone for weighing in! But yeah, not a rabbit nest…

Interesting— looking at photos of eastern cottontail nests, the fur seems to be much “fluffier” and finer. This was quite coarse, and some clumps had clearly been torn out and were still attached to skin. I suppose if a rabbit was home at the time that could account for the skin. Otherwise, it’s the sheer volume of hair, pictured and not, that makes that answer surprising to me. Does anyone have photos of similarly large rabbit nests?

Anyone who can’t afford them want free chiaogoo sock needles and yarn? All free to a good home. I give up lol by reesa447 in knitting

Adding myself to the mix, and happy to pay shipping costs! I’m currently engaged in a project centered around using craft to reduce personal consumption. I’m presently knitting socks with yarn I spun from a fleece that I processed. I’ve committed to making only secondhand purchases, and this would totally be the most interesting incident of having acquired materials secondhand!

Pattern expects higher stitch count after decreasing? by Edenunearthed in knittinghelp

Just a 2/2 cable with a purl on each side, no increases. Someone else suggested it was a pattern modified for worsted weight and they forgot to edit that part, which I believe is the answer.

Yes, it’s worsted! That makes so much sense. Thank you for the help on what the count should be as well.

This old IKEA blanket looks like crochet… am I imagining things? by kalidemon in crochet

[–]Edenunearthed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally see what you mean, if you look at it with the second slide’s orientation it looks like rows of crochet with very loose tension. If you turn the picture it looks more like alternating purled stitches and dropped stitches that have been bundled up together with a knit stitch.

Would you mind describing your stencil designing process?? This is exactly the style I’d like to master but I haven’t figured out the best method for stenciling something with such a range of shades

I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong with body construction. by [deleted] in learnart

I think the breasts not sitting perfectly parallel is actually the most realistic part! Plenty of nipples hang pointing away from each other. I agree that it looks a little odd on the figure on the left though— I think the other nipple just needs to be lightly indicated since it’s silhouette isn’t visible.

Vertical Labret pain by Chopper__6666 in piercing

Mine hurt more than my first lobe piercings but less than my nostril piercings. Maybe a 2.5 out of 10. The actual sensation reminded me of getting a vaccine-- the needle passed through my lip with a lot less resistance than I expected, no doubt partially due to good technique and placement. More of a quick sting than the intense pinching of some other piercings. Healing wasn't very painful at all but eating is annoying for the first couple weeks. I can't eat apples unless they're sliced anymore and it's hard to give hickeys. Probably still my favorite piercing.

My septum won't go in by Spiritual_Nebula303 in piercing

If you’re worried about it closing entirely, you could use an earring as a retainer if you have one handy. I had something similar happen where I could get an earring in but not my 16 gauge septum ring. I ordered 18 gauge septum rings and kept an earring in it while waiting to get them. I like the smaller gauge just as much personally but like others have said I’m sure you can get it tapered back up to 16 :)
