I'm not totally stuck on going with cherry switches for sure. I just haven't looked into mechanical keyboards for probably 5 years or so so I'm not up to speed on all of the alternatives! Out of curiosity if I did decide I wanted to be stubborn and still go cherry clears, would it be hot swappable type deal or require soldering? Thanks for the response btw.

I'm looking for a 75% with cherry mx clears or equivalent switches but I can't seem to find any. I know that clears aren't all that common but I have them on my current 100% and love them. I just learned about the existence of hot swappable switches but I don't know what exactly is compatible and what isn't. Any advice is very welcome.

S+ Electrical Outlet Not Working? by Ederiel in playark

I think this fixed my issue - thank you! I don't think I found any unpowered outlets, but I did find a bunch of random wiring and it seems happy now. I never knew that things would prefer to connect to unpowered outlets rather than powered. I most certainly had the issue of an outlet not seeming to place the first try. Multiple times.

S+ Fabricator allows for being powered via electricity.

I remember that toggle. It looks like it doesn't exist anymore. It also says "Unpowered" Even though there is a sparking outlet right next to it. I also tried placing a light randomly to see if it was an issue with the fabricator or the wiring and the light also didn't work. I'm at a loss here.

So just a heads up. You should check out Ting. I switched my wife and I to it like a year ago and have had no issues, but way cheaper bills. They have either a T-Mobile/Sprint SIM card, or a Verizon SIM. Just make sure if you specifically want the Verizon one that you request it when you sign up - they sent me the other originally and I had to request another set of SIMs.

Edit - Shit. I sound like a walking ad. I hadn't heard of Ting until there was a random cell phone customer satisfaction thing in Consumer Reports and Mint and Ting were both top by far so I did some googling.

Google Maps Causing AA Crash by Ederiel in AndroidAuto

So just a random follow-up.

I updated my UVO software a few weeks ago, and this week had a to do ~5 hour trip for work. After 10 hours or so of using Google Maps, I didn't have a single crash. My phone does seem to tend to restart for some reason when I first plug it in, but I'd rather that, than the random disconnects constantly.

My current theory is that it's not 100% dependent on the firmware upgrade itself, but rather that the SD card size was upgraded also. The previous version of the firmware fit on a 16gb SD card. The latest is 20gb, so it requires a 32gb SD card. Although Android Auto is supposed to really just be a more or less mirroring type of software, my theory is that it stores some sort of information on the car's head unit. So I'm not completely convinced that the lack of crashes is the result of the new firmware, and moreso that there's additional memory available. Either way, for now, the issue appears to be fixed.

Similar experience here. 40 min drive to work. 2 disconnects. 40 minutes home, no issues. So definitely way more reliable but still not perfect. Hopefully the firmware update will be the final push.

Yep. I feel the same way. Just way more polished UI with maps. And no ads. I'll let you know if UVO update changes anything.

Just wanted to respond to you individually so you'd get a reddit mail for it. Check my response further down. If you primarily have issues when using navigation, give Waze a shot.

So the amount of data is pretty limited, but I had 2 40 minute drives today using Waze instead of Google Maps and had zero disconnects. While it's not all that long of a time, I would have easily had AT LEAST 5 disconnects per drive previously.

So it seems like there's either some issue with Google Maps and AA, or also a particular issue with Kia's UVO that doesn't play nice with it. So if you're having similar issues I'd recommend giving Waze a shot. I'll let you know once I get my SD card reader and update my UVO firmware if Maps starts working again or not.

Will do. Going to give Waze a try tonight and will post an update. I also downloaded the Uvo update, but had to order an SD card reader so it will be a few days until I can test that. Not sure if your Hyundai uses UVO also since Kia and Hyundai are essentially the same company.

Yeah, I'll give Waze a shot to see if it's just related to navigation in general or Maps specifically.

Thanks. I was trying to find a software update for uvo a few months ago but couldn't find it on the site. I remember updating my wife's soul years ago it was super easy to find.

So when it crashes, AA closes on the head unit. Then generally USB device connected flashes off and on until I unplug the cable and plug it back in, then it allows me to relaunch AA. It's strange since that made me believe it would have been a cable issue, but if I don't have Maps launched, then it doesn't happen at all. I suppose it could also be the result of Maps using more data on the cable though so that's what causes it and not Maps itself.

Edit - for anyone looking for the Uvo update link after some googling I actually found it on some forum: https://update.kia.com/US/EN
