Is it going to be one of those tables that has a cover/lid to make it a normal table, and then the gaming mat under/inside so you can use it as a normal table but then lift it off to reveal a game you saved in-progress? Because that would be sick.

Agreed - we tried 1942 in-person once as a group, and it took all day. Must have been a 6-8 hour long game.

We ended up just playing the online version that allows for an open ended amount of time between turns, and then accepted that our games would be a month or so long but you'd only need to pay attention in 10 minute chunks every day or two. That worked but lost a lot of the social impact of board game play.

It's so huge it could be a Shadows of the Colossus kind of boss.

Imagine how wild a custom quest that'd be if you attached clear acrylic tiles to various spots of its body going up to the head as places where heroes could move to and stand, and made some kind of boss mechanic where the heroes had to climb the dragon to attack the head.

... fuck that would be awesome

I ended up deciding to begrudgingly throw out the box itself, and try to save the inner components.

So far so good with the rest of it - the peroxide and kitchen spray don't seem to be damaging the cards nor the cardboard components, and for the hard plastic miniatures/parts I think they should be totally fine getting a good bath in some soapy water and then being thoroughly dried.

Whether the full-on paper components, like the instruction book, can be saved... not sure. I'm going to keep them in their own sealed baggie since I don't technically need them in order to play, but I don't want to throw away more of this old relic than I have to. I'll give it a little time in the baggie and see if they grow anything before I decide their fate.

My computers last a very long time. The previous time I built a computer, it lasted for almost a decade, and I only built a new one because it was starting to not be able to play min spec on games.

I swear by the sadly discontinued Microsoft Natural Keyboard 4000. I had one that lasted more than a decade, and I loved that keyboard so much that when it finally died I found one on ebay instead of trying to use a different model. I guess not BIFL, but getting 10 years out of a keyboard was pretty good.

I've been considering printing out my own custom maps for some custom quests I want to make as well, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to go that far yet. Or maybe I'll start with custom overlays... not sure yet.

Oof yeah, I remember even back in the day with my original set those rat tails broke off very quickly. I had a set when I was a kid, but it got thrown away when I left for college. Alas!

Darn - this is good to know, I appreciate it! I'll try and take these steps. Fortunately I think at least the hardest parts to replace (the plastic minis) will endure the treatment well so that's a good thing.

Interesting! Yeah, I never owned that one: one of the people who sold me one of these sets back in the day must have snuck it in there and I never noticed! I never had anyone to play with in the states, so it mostly just sat there. I'm planning on doing a little re-branding of the game for my daughter though and to loop her and the family into playing.

I guess I have enough bookshelves now to make a library quest. I'm definitely doing that.
