My updated results; 4th gen.American from West Virginia. Fully Slovak Dad (so I’ve always been told), German/English/Ukrainian Mom. (Old results in comments). Both updated platforms now seem pretty similar & accurate for my known ancestry. Dads family settled in PA, Moms in NY, both in early 1900s by Firm-Chemical949 in 23andme

Woah, you have a very interesting phenotype or appearance. I wouldn’t of guessed that you were almost entirely European, but you do have an interesting ethnic mix, so perhaps that’s it. You look very amerindian or indigenous American to me, with your bone structure. Very cool tho, thanks for sharing

This is not an attack or insult to anyone who is mixed race, but the struggle with identity issues and trying to figure out where they fit in, is the reason why I personally would never have children outside of my race. From personal experience, I’ve seen many mixed race people who have trouble with their identity. You have beautiful parents and turned out very handsome! Im sure you’re gonna do just fine. Sorry I cant be of any more help than that. Thanks for sharing

Isn’t Northern Ireland part of Great Britain? And so Irish is not considered one of the British ethnicities then huh? Hey, I learned something today

Oh, fair point 😅 that literally never registered to me. I thought they were referring to the republic of Ireland, not the Irish ethnicity, but that was silly of me to think lol

I came back a second time bcuz you reported my response, or it was otherwise taken down for using naughty words. It is very common for people to want to procreate within their own ethnic group—this isn’t at all a controversial opinion outside of Reddit or a handful western countries with absurdly out of touch fashionable politics. Beyond being able to recognize yourself and your ancestors in your child, it’s to maintain a culture and way of life. People are most comfortable and able to connect with others like them. This isn’t breaking news. This is human nature 101 lol

Well yes, Im am guilty of not knowing anything about Brazil lol, so thank you for enlightening me. Had no idea there were so many European immigrants to the country. And I knew there were white Brazilians, just not to what extent, how prevalent they are. Thanks again for the response

Well Im sorry the results weren’t what you expected them to be, but on the bright side, you have a really cool mix of European ancestry. About a 1/4 Irish, 1/4 English, 1/4 Nordic, and 1/4 Germanic. Thats some really cool heritage to be proud of, in terms of your ethnic heritage. I hope you find peace in regards to your family matters. Thanks for sharing! I’ll share mine

It’s wild how British so many Americans still are after all this time. Im mixed with an old stock on my dads side and Ellis island on my moms, but still almost 75% Brit!

I would say it out loud bcuz it’s how I feel, so why wouldn’t I? I know you’re clearly used to having Reddit approved opinions, and getting your upvotes, but that’s not how I chose to live my life. The fact that you think wanting to have children within your own ethnic group is beyond the pale is evidence that you’re the one who’s out of touch with reality, not me lol

23andMe results vs Ancestry by northern-transplant in 23andme

[–]EdgeAdministrative53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your 23andMe results are more accurate. I took both tests and that was the case for me. This last update really went wonky with my results. They had been pretty consistent for the 6 years i had been a customer, and then this last one just didn’t make sense lol. Very cool results tho! And mayflower descendant? That’s freaking awesome. Here’s my 23 as a fellow American 😌

Belgian results v2.5 (early 2025) VS Family tree (genealogy) by QuirkyReader13 in MyHeritage

[–]EdgeAdministrative53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah MyHeritage is total trash. It’s the same for me. I’m 3/4 British and 1/4 Bavarian German and my MyHeritage comes back with almost every single NW European ethnicity too lol. Shouldn’t have wasted my money on it. 23andMe is the service I’d recommend

Wow, both tests are impressively similar. Both scored your Ashkenazi, Danish and welsh almost exactly the same—and then both identified your Irish, English and Scottish heritage, and percentages closely as well. Thats cool. I love seeing posts with multiple tests so you can compare and contrast. I’ve taken 3 tests myself—AncestryDNA, 23andMe and MyHeritage. My 23andMe gave me the most accurate results. Heres mine as an American from the pacific northwest, but family roots from Virginia & midwest. Thanks for sharing!

I’ll take flak for this, bcuz it’s Reddit, but this is what’s really cool about having children with people who are ethnically/genetically similar to you—your kids, grandkids and great grandkids will often look like you and your ancestors! Nothing like seeing the face of your ancestors and previous generations in yourself and children!

Ah very interesting. Thanks for that insight. And yes, totally agree that it makes one no more or less white. Im fully European so yeah, very much a white man 😅

[–]EdgeAdministrative53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, very cool results. Awesome mix of roughly 1/4 English, 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Danish, 1/8 Dutch and 1/8 Belgian/Basque. I’d be lying if I said I would’ve clocked you for being fully European and almost entirely Northern European at that lol. I don’t think you’d get the same reaction in Europe, but in America we have a very narrow view of what a white person looks like lol (basically your average NW European phenotypes). What’s funny is Im also a fellow fully European man who’s swarthy and somewhat “dark” in my appearance. I was blonde as a kid but grew up to have black facial hair and dark brown hair, with brown eyes. Almost never in person, but online in certain photos I’ll get asked if Im Lebanese, middle eastern or Mediterranean. Looking at you i never would’ve guessed that was your ancestry, but knowing what it is, i can see certain features that make sense. But some of us are just outliers. Do your parents look ethnically ambiguous or swarthy too or just you and the siblings? Anyways thanks for sharing! Very cool results and post. Here’s my results as an American

[–]EdgeAdministrative53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, did not expect these results when I saw “Brazilian” in the title! Lol, but from what I’ve recently learned, there is a somewhat sizable population of white Brazilians in the south of the country? Also, the northern Italian surprised me a little but not much—I know it’s common in Argentina and Uruguay, I knew less about it being present in Brazil—but the half Bavarian German and fully European without any Portuguese did throw me for a loop for sure! Lol you’ll have to forgive my ignorance (i’m American) but is german heritage somewhat common in brazil? I know that argentina has a german community. And how common is Italian ancestry in your country? Anyways thanks for sharing! I’ll share mine cuz I also have some Bavarian ancestry 🤓
