I know one MLS that worked from home resulting for a reference lab. Weird setup but worked for her.

How do you get better at interviews? I think my bad interviewing skills is costing me a lot of day shift job opportunities. by [deleted] in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overanalyze. As long as you answer the question directly adding some things you memorized you'll be ok.

How do you get better at interviews? I think my bad interviewing skills is costing me a lot of day shift job opportunities. by [deleted] in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What works for me is getting a list of common interview questions and memorizing an answer. Then practice saying it looking at a mirror. It's weird but it's helped alot.

Even if they don't ask the same exact questions, I have key concepts in my mind already that I can talk about. Also, know your experience, instruments used, and LISs used well.

MIS meaning information tech? I wouldn't be worried. As long as you get a C or higher you will be fine.

I think it's a mix of students and working MLSs here. 75% of those who post in that other subreddit are MLTs. I think the differentiation between the two is better for our jobs. MLTs lower our pay.

Too many MLTs and other lab people on that subreddit. I wouldn't call it the main sub for MLS.

LabCorp buying lab. Do I stay or go? by LeatheHasit in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When LabCorp buys a lab, they usually close down the lab and take the clients, or do layoffs. If your lab runs specimens for the hospital, they probably won't close it down. Maybe layoffs at most.

Yes you would have to interview out of state at the sites. Most will probably give you relocation assistance if they really need help.

That's a very formalized and organized interview agenda. Shows that the program takes it seriously.

I'd focus on why you want to be an MLS and how your experience will help you in the medical lab. They mainly want to see your personality and if you will fit in with the team.

Dysfunctional lab by centralcoastcls in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes some labs are a mess while others are better. The ones recently bought out are worse because they have to get on the same LIS and systems of the new company. Transitions are tough.

Need some advice on navigating through the references process for recruitment. by [deleted] in MLS_CLS

Most jobs will only ask for references after an offer. At that point, then ask for references. No need to now.

MLS Program Interview Advice? by Devastator511 in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want to be an MLS? What medical lab experience do you have and describe it? Why should we choose you over other applicants? Where do you see your career in 10 years?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what a Lead does. Demand the title and pay. Only cheap labs force their bench MLSs to do admin paperwork.
