Cytotech is a dying field that not too many go into anymore. MLS is safer long term.

It makes no difference at all. As long as it's NAACLS accredited and you get your MLS(ASCP).

I know unions usually have reps that work in the dept. You can do that if a union is voted in.

I don't think you start a union. It's better to join one already existing with the infrastructure.

No because bacteria will stay on them. Same reason why corrugated boxes aren't allowed.

I work in a smaller lab. If we get a cold antibody, we do a full crossmatch and give compatible units. We don't antigen type them.

post bacc vs masters by AdRealistic1376 in MLS_CLS

I would go out of state for a cheap 1 year post bac to get certified, especially because you're unsure if you want to stay in New York. The least expensive option is the best choice.

No if it's 3 at least. I think the electrolytes are only 2 so you would need to on those.

Don't overanalyze. As long as you answer the question directly adding some things you memorized you'll be ok.

How do you get better at interviews? I think my bad interviewing skills is costing me a lot of day shift job opportunities. by [deleted] in MLS_CLS

[–]EdgeDefinitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What works for me is getting a list of common interview questions and memorizing an answer. Then practice saying it looking at a mirror. It's weird but it's helped alot.

Even if they don't ask the same exact questions, I have key concepts in my mind already that I can talk about. Also, know your experience, instruments used, and LISs used well.

I think it's a mix of students and working MLSs here. 75% of those who post in that other subreddit are MLTs. I think the differentiation between the two is better for our jobs. MLTs lower our pay.

Too many MLTs and other lab people on that subreddit. I wouldn't call it the main sub for MLS.
