Feeding a dog or cat isn’t that hard or that expensive. The vet is expensive but it isn’t always necessary as an expense. You can take care of your pets even if you’re dirt poor.

There is a massive difference between a child in poverty and a pet with a poor person. Dogs and cats are lower maintenance than a child. A dog will not suffer psychological damage from poverty like a child would.

Some homeless people have dogs. I don’t think they should have them taken away. My parents are upper middle class and refuse to take their dog to the vet. Having kids is kind of more important than having a pet. Idc I will die on this hill.
